If the gasket is not serviceable, replace the gasket as follows:
(a)
Put the tray that contains the new gasket on a flat surface.
NOTE: Make sure the gasket is up.

(b)
Remove the paper cover from the tray.
(c)
Since the hole locations are not symmetrical, carefully put the clamp ring on the gasket (the countersunk end of holes face up).
(d)
Make sure that the clamp ring and the gasket holes align.
(e)
Push the clamp ring on the gasket until the clamp ring is tightly against the gasket.
(f)
Remove the clamp ring, the gasket, and the strip that releases, from the tray as a unit.
(g)
Put the unit on a flat surface with the gasket side up.
(h)
Remove the strip from the gasket.

(5) If you use the gasket that was removed, make sure that the anticorrosion grease correctly fills the mesh of the gasket.
NOTE: If there is not sufficient quantity of grease, the grease can
____ have holes that collect moisture. If you use too much grease the grease could flow out of the lower wing surface.
(a)
If the gasket does not contain the correct quantity of grease, remove the grease with a lintfree cloth that is moist with a solvent.
(b)
Apply 1/2 to 1 oz. of grease to the gasket.
NOTE: Make sure the layer is continuous on the gasket and
____ you layer each side of the gasket equally.

CAUTION:_______APPLY THE GREASE CAREFULLY. THE GREASE CAN CAUSE CONTAMINATION OF THE FUEL TANK.
(6)
Apply 0.010-0.015 inch thick layer of anticorrosion grease to the external area of the access opening (the area where the gasket contacts the wing skin).
(7)
Hold the access door in the tank and set it on top of the opening.

Align the longer nut retainer on the access door with the notch on the access door opening.

Hold the gasket and the clamp ring into the correct position and install the mounting bolts (21 locations).

Tighten the mounting bolts to 35-40 pound-inches (4.0-4.5 newton-meters).
NOTE: Start to tighten the mounting bolts from the centerline to
____ the outboard direction and equally in both directions (Fig. 402).

(11) Make sure the pressure relief valve is closed.

WARNING: MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE SURGE TANK ACCESS DOORS CORRECTLY.
_______ FUEL CAN ENTER THE SURGE TANKS DURING SOME GROUND OR FLIGHT MANEUVERS. IF THE SURGE TANK ACCESS DOOR(S) ARE NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY, AN OVERBOARD FUEL SPILL CAN OCCUR. AN OVERBOARD FUEL SPILL IS A FIRE HAZARD.
