5. Repair of O-Rings and Rubber Seals (Fig. 818)
__________________________________
A. General
(1)
Leaks can occur around plumbing fittings that you can remove, primary tension bolts, tank access doors and fuel system components that go through the fuel tank surfaces. These components are sealed by O-rings or by rubber seals. Replace the O-rings or rubber seals when they are damaged or have fuel leaks. You must apply the alodine layer to all surfaces of the tank structure that are damaged before you install new O-rings or rubber seals.
(2)
O-rings are used to seal these types of components:
(a)
Plumbing fittings that you can remove
(b)
Primary tension bolts
(c)
Access doors for the fuel tanks
(d)
Fuel system components that go through tank walls.
(3)
O-rings are used to seal these components:
(a)
Removable plumbing fittings
(b)
Primary tension bolts
(c)
Access doors for the fuel tank
(d)
Fuel system components that go through fuel tank walls.
(4)
If an O-ring seal has a leak, you must replace it.
(5)
The high impact-resistant and cast aluminum access doors are sealed with a rubber seal ring. If a seal on a high impact-resistant door has a leak (the seal becomes loose but has no damage), you can replace the seal. All new type replacement cast aluminum access doors will also have molded rubber seals that you can remove and replace. To replace the seal, refer to this task: Replacement of the Molded Rubber Door Seal.
