WING SURGE TANK FUEL VENT TUBE - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General_______
A. This procedure contains these tasks:

B.
This section supplies instructions for the removal and installation of the fuel vent tube in the wing surge tank and the wingtip dry bay. Procedures are also provided to remove and install the vent tube inlet.
C.
The fuel vent tube is installed in each surge tank and in the wingtip dry bay between the outboard rib of the surge tank and the rear spar.
D.
To get access to the vent tube you must go through the access doors installed in the bottom of the wing surge tank and the wingtip dry bay.

The Remove the Fuel Vent Tube from the Wing Tip Surge Tank Procedure

WARNING:_______OBEY ALL THE FUEL TANK PURGING AND ENTRY PRECAUTIONS. YOU CAN CAUSE AN INJURY TO A PERSON AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE.
(1)
Remove all the fuel in the surge tank and prepare the surge tank for an entry (AMM 28-11-00/201).

(2)
Disconnect the bonding jumpers on the vent tube from the airplane structure.

Remove the seal caps from the nuts that attach the vent tube to the outboard end of the surge tank.

Remove the nuts and washers (12 locations).

Remove the sealant from the perimeter of the vent tube at the outboard end of the surge tank (AMM 28-11-00/801).

Disconnect the vent tube clamps from the airplane structure.
NOTE: Keep the shims or spacers for the installation task.

(7) Disconnect the applicable couplings for the vent tube to remove the tube from the surge tank.
NOTE: Discard the coupling O-rings.

(8) Remove the vent tube and the clamps.
NOTE: The tube that goes through the outboard rib of the surge tank

must be removed from the wingtip dry bay.
D. Remove the Fuel Vent Tube from the Wingtip Dry Bay Procedure

(1)
Remove the access doors 556AB and 556BB (left side) or 656AB and 656BB (right side), as it is applicable.
(2)
Go into the wingtip dry bay.

(3)
Disconnect the bonding jumpers on the vent tube from the airplane structure.

Remove the bolts and the washers (10 locations) that attach the vent tube to the fitting on the rear spar.

(5)
Remove the bolts and the washers (12 locations) that attach the vent tube to the inboard end of the wingtip dry bay.
