E. The adapter/shaft assembly consists of an adapter plate, universal joint, and a shaft. The adapter plate is attached to the spar web and contains the necessary seals, bearings, and provisions for installation of the actuator. The shaft is attached to the adapter plate with a universal joint to provide for misalignment between the actuator and the valve. The valve end of the shaft contains a splined indexed slip joint for proper alignment.
F. NO. 3 RESERVE TANK TRANSFER VALVES; The No. 3 reserve tank transfer valves are installed differently. The valve operates in an opposite direction compared with all of the other valves in the fuel system. This different installation is necessary because ice can build-up in the transfer line outboard of the reserve tank valves. Because of the installation change, the No. 3 reserve tank valves open in an inboard direction. Any ice in the transfer line will not block valve rotation.
