(b) For the reserve tanks, do these steps:
1) At the location where you will do maintenance, remove three adjacent access doors (AMM 28-11-02/401).
NOTE: Usually the middle access door is the door where you
____ will go into the fuel tank.
2) Install rubber protectors around the openings of the reserve tank access doors.
3) Install the reserve tank cover assembly (6MIT65B00112-2) to one of the openings in the reserve tank (the outboard access door is the preferred door).
4) Make sure there will be a flow of air into the area where you will do the maintenance. 5) Start the air supply connected to the air mover ventilation equipment.

For the surge tanks, do these steps: 1) Remove the two surge tank access doors for the surge tank where you will do the maintenance (AMM 28-11-03 401). 2) Install the surge tank cover assembly (6MIT65B00112-3) to surge tank opening adjacent to where you will do work.
3) Start the air supply connected to the air mover ventilation equipment.
(d)
For the center wing tank, do these steps:
1) Remove the center wing tank purge tank door
(AMM 28-11-06/401).
2) Remove one of the center wing tank access doors
(AMM 28-11-01/401).
3) Do these steps to attach the ventilation equipment (6MIT65B00112) to the purge tank door opening: a) Bond the air duct to airplane structure. b) Install the air duct equipment (6MIT65B00112) to the
opening at the purge tank door. c) Seal the area between the air duct and the purge tank access opening. 4) Start the air supply connected to the air mover ventilation equipment.

(3) AIR BLOWER TYPE VENTILATION EQUIPMENT (BOE-501 OR EQUIVALENT); Do these steps to install the air ventilation equipment (Fig. 203):
WARNING: DO NOT STOP OR START THE VENTILATION BLOWER WHILE THE AIR
_______ DUCT IS IN THE FUEL TANK. THE FUEL VAPOR FROM THE FUEL TANK COULD CAUSE AN EXPLOSION AT THE BLOWER MOTOR. AN EXPLOSION CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

Start the ventilation blower before you put the air duct in the
fuel tank.
FOR WING FUEL TANKS OUTBOARD OF WING STATION 994;
Do these steps:
1) FOR THE MAIN AND RESERVE TANKS;
At the location where you will do maintenance, remove three adjacent access doors (AMM 28-11-02/401).
NOTE:____ Usually the middle access door is the door where you
will go into the fuel tank.
2) FOR THE SURGE TANKS;
At the location where you will do maintenance, remove the
two access doors (AMM 28-11-03/401).
3) Install rubber protectors around the openings of the fuel
tank access doors.
4) Install the access door adapter to the access door (the
outboard access door is the preferred door).
5) Bond the access door adapter to the airplane structure.
6) Make sure there will be a flow of air into the area where
you will do the maintenance.
FOR THE MAIN TANK INBOARD OF WING STATION 944;
Do these steps:
1) Remove the access door where you will do the maintenance (AMM 28-11-01/401).
2) Install rubber protectors around the openings of the main
tank access doors.
3) Put the air duct inside the open access door.
4) Use the pigtail on the end of the air duct to bond the air duct to the airplane structure.
5) Make sure there will be a flow of air into the area where you will do the maintenance.
