MAINTENANCE MANUAL

 (d)
Reserve tank transfer valve operation is tested by initiating a BITE test from the CMCS GROUND TEST menu. Test can be initiated from any CDU.

 (2)
Outboard Main to Inboard Main Tank Fuel Transfer (Fig. 4)

 (a)
The main tank transfer valves are controlled automatically by the fuel jettison control cards (FJCC) in the fuel management system or manually by a switch on the miscellaneous switch module on the pilots' overhead panel.

 (b)
During fuel jettison, either FJCC provides an electrical ground for the transfer valve control relays. When the relays become energized, power is supplied to drive the valves to the open position.

 (c)
In the event that both boost pumps in an outboard main tank fail, the main tank transfer valves can be opened by a switch on the miscellaneous switch module on the pilots' overhead panel. Placing the switch to ON provides a direct power supply to the valves, driving them to open position.

 (d)
During transfer or jettison operation, colored bars illuminate on the EICAS fuel synoptic, indicating outboard main-to-inboard main tank fuel transfer (Fig. 5).

 (e)
When the jettison operation is complete, the control relays are de-energized and power is supplied to drive the valves to the closed position. When the main tank transfer valve switch is placed in OFF position, power is supplied to drive the valves to the closed position.

 B.
Control

 (1)
Operation of the reserve tank transfer valves during normal fuel feed or jettison is automatically controlled by the fuel system management cards. No operator action is required. During defueling, fuel is transferred by placing the RESERVE 2&3 XFER switch on the maintenance overhead panel in the ON position.

 (2)
Operation of the main tank transfer valves is automatically controlled by the fuel jettison control cards. No operator action is required.

 (3)
In the event that both boost pumps in an outboard main tank fail, the main tank transfer valves can be opened by the operator to allow fuel to transfer inboard. Place the MAIN XFR VLV 1&4 switch on the miscellaneous switch module in ON position.

RESERVE TANK TRANSFER VALVE ACTUATOR - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
___________________________________________________________
 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure supplies instructions for the removal and installation of the actuator for the transfer valve in the reserve tank. The instructions are the same for all four of the actuators in the reserve tank. Only the locations are different.
 B.  There are two transfer valve actuators installed on the rear spar of each wing. The valves are installed immediately inboard of the strut for the outboard engine.
 C.  To get access to the actuators, extend the trailing edge flaps.
