F. Repair of the Secondary Fuel Barrier Sealant

(1) Lightly sand the damaged area with, 180 grit or finer, abrasive paper.
NOTE: Do not sand to the bare metal if possible.

CAUTION: THOROUGHLY CLEAN THE FUEL TANK AREA AFTER YOU USE ABRASIVE
_______ MATERIALS IN MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS. DAMAGE TO THE PUMPS AND OTHER EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR IF THE FUEL TANK AREA IS NOT CLEAN.

Remove all contamination with a clean cloth soaked with BMS 11-7 cleaning solvent.

Rub the area dry with a clean, dry cloth.

Refinish all bare metal (AMM 51-21-02/701).

Apply BMS5-45 or BMS5-26 Type II sealant to smooth areas that have sharp edges.

Apply the primer BMS 10-11, Type I (yellow) until it makes an overlap with the adjacent area that is not damaged.

Let the primer dry for 30 minutes to 4 hours before applying BMS 5-81.

Prepare the secondary fuel barrier sealant (BMS 5-81, Type II) as follows:
(a)
Make sure the base and accelerator are each homogeneous, free from lumps or gelled particles.
(b)
Make sure the base component is clear. If the base component becomes cloudy, do these steps: 1) Heat the material in an oven at a temperature between 120
and 130°F for 60 - 70 minutes. 2) At the end of the exposure time, take the material out of the oven. 3) Let the material cool to a temperature between 60 and 80°F before you use it. 4) At any time when a base container is opened, purge it with dry nitrogen before you close it.
