 C.  To trim balance the fan and the LPT, the two-plane trim balance procedure is used.
 (1)
The two-plane trim balance procedure is necessary to decrease the engine vibration again when the fan trim balance procedure decreased the levels as follows:

 (a)
The vibration levels for the fan to not more than 3.5 mils DA.

 (b)
The vibration levels for the TRF to more than 4.0 mils DA.

 (2)
The two-plane procedure uses spinner balance screws to balance the fan. The two-plane procedure also uses clip-on weights added to the tip shrouds of the LPT 4th-stage blades to balance the LPT.

D.  Definition of Terms and Symbols
 (1)  Symbols
NOTE: Subscripts can be added to these symbols to show the
____ operation number (W4 is the correction weight for the initial engine operation).
 (a)
U - Vibration amplitude or displacement vector

 (b)
A - Phase angle as shown on the vibration analyzer

 (c)
W - Balance correction weight

 (d)
R and .W - Resultant:

 1)  The result of the vector analysis. (The vector that goes from the end of vector No. 1 to the end of vector No. 2)

 (e)
S - Sensitivity:

 1)  The Ratio of the imbalance weight (g-cm) to the vibration amplitude (mils) caused by a given imbalance weight for a given speed and sensor.

 (f)
L - Location where a balance weight is to be installed.

 (2)  Terms
 (a)
The Displacement Vector (U) shown on the balance analyzer is given in Mils Double Amplitude (DA). The angular direction is given by the phase angle (A) in degrees.

 (b)
Balance weights are screws of different lengths, attached radially on the spinner rear cone.

 (c)
The operation of the engine will be referred to as an engine run.

 TASK 72-31-00-805-005-C00
 2.  Fan Trim Balance Procedure (Analyzer Method)
____________________________________________
 A.  General
 (1)
The analyzer procedure uses test equipment to find the amplitudes and phase angles.

 (2)
This task includes the data that follows:

 (a)
The available trim balance kits and equipment are given in this procedure.

 (b)
The instructions to connect kits 856A2633G05, 856A2636G01, or 856A2605G22/G21/G18/G17/G13 (optional kit G20/G12 is similar -see Fig. 501 for differences) to the engine and airplane are given in this procedure.

 (c)
To get data about the operation of the equipment, refer to the manufacturer's instructions.

(3)  The data that follows is for the Trim Balance Kit 856A2633G05, PBS 4100, or 856A2605G22/G21/G18/G17/G13 (Fig. 501).
NOTE: IF TRIM BALANCE KIT PBS 4100 IS USED, REFER TO
____
THE MANUFACTURER FOR THE CORRECT KIT.

 (a)  The kit has a trim balance analyzer, a signal conditioner and a set of test leads. 1) The T-shaped test lead, (A), sends the N1 speed signal to
the signal conditioner while it keeps the connection between the N1 speed sensor and the control parameter wire harness.
 2)  Test lead (B) connects the signal conditioner to the vibration sensor for the No. 1 bearing or to the FFCCV vibration sensor.
 3)  Test lead (C) connects the signal conditioner to the TRF vibration sensor.
 4)  Test lead (F), which is 75 feet (23 m) in length, connects the signal conditioner to the trim balance analyzer installed in the cabin.
