 G. Fan Blade Individual Replacement (Fig. 407).
 NOTE: If pairs of fan blades are not available as spares, one blade can
____ be replaced if the difference between the moment weights of the spare blade and its opposite is not more than 50 gram-inches (127 gm-cm). However, the inspection and corrections given below must be done before and after the fan blade installation to make sure the engine imbalance is not more than the limits. This will also optimize the engine operation. Two conditions can exist. Refer to Figure 407.
 NOTE: In all cases of individual fan blade replacement, remove its
____
 opposite in order to compare their moment weights.

 NOTE: In all cases of fan blade replacement, a vibration survey can be
____ performed. The results from the vibration survey will determine if a trim balance is necessary.
 NOTE: The digit numbers (1) through (100) on the upper front face on the
____ platform are the moment weight class code. The difference between two adjacent moment weight class codes is 50 gram-inches.
 NOTE: The 5 digit number engraved on the lower face of the blade root
____ close to the part identification numbers (part number and serial number) is the fan rotor blade moment weight value. This value (example: 31628) is expressed in gram-inches.

 (1) Do the procedure to prepare for the replacement of the fan blades.

 WARNING:_______MAKE SURE YOU WEAR GLOVES WHEN YOU HANDLE THE FAN BLADES. THE FAN BLADES CAN CAUSE INJURY TO YOUR HANDS.
 CAUTION: IF YOU ARE TO INSTALL THE FAN ROTOR BLADES AGAIN, YOU MUST MAKE
_______ A RECORD OF THEIR INITIAL POSITIONS. YOU CAN ONLY USE APPROVED MARKING MATERIALS (AMM 70-10-03/201).
 (2)  Remove the fan blade.
 (a)  Use your hand to turn the fan until the fan blade to be removed is in the 12 o'clock position.

(b)
Remove the spinner front and rear cones (AMM 72-31-01/401).

 (c)
Move the spacer forward until you can release the retainer.


 NOTE: If it is necessary, use a puller adapter, slide hammer,
____
 and rod.

 (d)  
Lift the blade retainer out of the fan disk.

 (e)  
Lower the blade toward the disk center to disengage the mid-span shroud.

 (f)  
To remove the blade, move the blade forward out of the dovetail slot.

 (g)  
ENGINES WITH A REBROACHED FAN DISK; (ENGINES POST-CFMI-SB 72-621 AND POST-CFMI-SB 72-820); Remove the shim from the root of the fan blade.

 (h)  
ENGINES WITH DAMPERS; (ENGINES POST-CFMI-SB 72-494 AND POST-CFMI-SB 72-543); Remove the dampers.

 (i)  
If it is necessary, move the adjacent blade forward as follows: 1) Pull the spacer from the adjacent blade forward.


 NOTE: If it is necessary, use a puller adapter, slide
____
 hammer, and a rod.

 2) Remove the retainer.
 3) Lower the blade to disengage the mid-span shroud.
 4) Move the blade forward in the dovetail slot until you can

 release the blade.

 (3)  Install the fan blade as follows:
 CAUTION: DO NOT INSTALL FAN BLADES WITH 25 DEGREE AND 37 DEGREE
_______ MID-SPAN SHROUDS ON THE SAME ENGINE. FAN BLADES WITH 37 DEGREE MID-SPAN SHROUDS (CFMI SB 72-494 OR CFMI SB 72-543) HAVE THE LETTER "N" ON THE BLADE PLATFORM IMMEDIATELY BEFORE THE MOMENT WEIGHT CLASSIFICATION. ENGINE FAILURE CAN OCCUR.
 (a)  
Get a spare fan blade with the correct mid-span shroud.

 (b)  
Write the moment-weight of the blade you removed and the spare blade you are to install.
