(3)
If the seal or the shroud rubs but is serviceable, the engine can be used if a Power Assurance Test (AMM 71-00-00/501) is satisfactory.
S 216-107-C00
(4)
After the test, examine these components for signs of bearing damage, and if found, removed and disassemble the engine (AMM 71-00-02/401):
(a) Magnetic chip detectors (AMM 79-21-05/201).

TASK 72-00-00-206-126-C00
17. Volcanic Ash, Dust Or Sand Ingestion Inspection
_______________________________________________
A. General
(1) This procedure contains the volcanic ash, dust or sand ingestion inspection.
(2) Do this inspection on engines that have flown through, operated in, ú or been exposed to volcanic ash, severe dust or severe sand ú conditions.

(1) Do the steps that follow for engines that have flown through or ú operated in volcanic ash, severe dust or severe sand conditions: ú ú NOTE:____Some aircraft are operated in normally sandy or dusty ú conditions (e.g. deserts, unimproved runways) without adverse ú affect on the engines. This inspection is for severe dust or ú sand conditions that are more than normal. ú
(a)
Visually examine the engine inlet and exhaust areas for indications of damage or erosion that is more than the permitted limits.
(b)
Do a borescope inspection procedure of the HPC and HPT (AMM 72-00-00/601) and look for this damage:
NOTE:____Make sure you inspect all stages of the HPC. The aft stages of the HPC are most easily damaged by volcanic ash, dust or sand erosion.
NOTE: Make sure you inspect the HPT nozzle vanes and HPT
____ blades for erosion and accumulation of solidified materials. Sufficient quantities of material accumulation on the HPT nozzle vanes can cause a reduced engine stall margin.
1) Erosion that is more than the limits. 2) Foreign object damage (FOD).
