Put the primary blade edge grinding tip (1) (Fig. 804) close to the HPC blade defect.

 (f)  
Align the blend tool tip with the blade defect and check for correct movement across the total length of the area to be blended.


 NOTE: Do not start the drive motor (14) (Fig. 802, Sheet 2) at

 this time.

 NOTE: Make sure the blend tool tip correctly touches across
____
 the total area to be blended.

 (g)  Use the primary blade edge grinding tip (1) (Fig. 804) and mark the two sides of the blades defect.
 NOTE: The minimum blend radius should be eight times the depth
____ of the defect, or four times on both sides of the center of the blade defect (Fig. 803).
 (h)  Start the drive motor (14) (Fig. 802, Sheet 2) and apply pressure to the grind tip (1) (Fig. 802, Sheet 2) at the defect area. 1) After sufficient practice with the grind tip (1) (Fig. 802,
 Sheet 2) on the blade leading edge surface, turn on the motor using the on/off switch (16) (Fig. 802, Sheet 2) and use the motor speed control (6) (Fig. 802, Sheet 2) to increase the speed.
 NOTE: If the grind tip (1) (Fig. 802, Sheet 2) does not
____ turn freely, apply less pressure to the blade edge surface.

(i)  
During blending, make sure to put a contour on the edge of the blade and remove the sharp edges.

 (j)  
Stop the drive motor (14) (Fig. 802, Sheet 2).

 (k)  
Put the grind tip (1) (Fig. 802, Sheet 2) in the 0-degree
 position.


 (l)  
Remove the grind tip (1) (Fig. 802, Sheet 2) from the borescope access port.

 (m)  
Put the grind tip (1) (Fig. 802, Sheet 2) in the 90-degree
 position.

 

 CAUTION: DO NOT INSTALL OR REMOVE A TOOL TIP FROM THE DRIVE SHAFT
_______ HEAD IN THE 0-DEGREE POSITION. IF YOU REMOVE THE TOOL TIP WITH THE DRIVE SHAFT HEAD IN THE 0-DEGREE POSITION, THE DRIVE BELT WILL DISENGAGE.
 (n)  Loosen the lockscrew and remove the grind tip (1) (Fig. 802,
 Sheet 2) from the drive shaft head (2) (Fig. 802, Sheet 2).

 CAUTION: DO NOT INSTALL OR REMOVE A TOOL TIP FROM THE DRIVE SHAFT
_______ HEAD IN THE 0-DEGREE POSITION. IF YOU REMOVE THE TOOL TIP WITH THE DRIVE SHAFT HEAD IN THE 0-DEGREE POSITION, THE DRIVE BELT WILL DISENGAGE.
 (o)  
Install the polishing ball tip (4) (Fig. 804) onto the drive shaft head (2) (Fig. 802, Sheet 2) and tighten the lockscrew. This will prevent damage to the rotor blades or the blend tool.

 (p)  
Put the polishing ball tip (4) (Fig. 804) in the 0-degree position and put in the borescope access port. Next, put drive shaft head (2) (Fig. 802, Sheet 2) at the 90-degree position.

 (q)  
Polish the blended surface and stop the drive motor (14)
 (Fig. 802, Sheet 2).


 (r)  
Put the polishing ball tip (4) (Fig. 804) in the 0-degree
 position and remove from the borescope port.

 (3)  
Perform borescope inspection of repairs.

 (a)  
Use the standard borescope probe 1 configuration (magnified 1:1 at 7 in. (177 mm) and inspect blended blades to make sure you removed all the defect.

 (b)  
Install the borescope plug (AMM 72-00-00/601).

 (c)  
Install the borescope core turning pad coverplate
 (AMM 72-00-00/601).

 


 (4)  
Do an idle power leak check (AMM 71-00-00/501).

 (5)  
Do the procedure to put the airplane back to its usual condition.
