CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU OBEY THE WIND VELOCITY AND DIRECTION LIMITS.
_______ IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE LIMITS, FAN TIP STALL CAN OCCUR.
(i)
Start the engine (AMM 71-00-00/201) and operate it at minimum power for 3 minutes until the engine is stable.
(j)
Increase the speed of the engine slowly, during a time of 20-30 seconds, until the speed is 80 |2 %N1 rpm.
(k)
Continue to operate the engine at a speed of 80 |2 %N1 rpm for a minimum of 5 minutes to make the temperature of the engine stable.
NOTE: The time to make the temperature stable can be decreased
____ to a minimum of 3 minutes if the engine was operated less than 15 minutes before this procedure. This 3 minute time is not necessary if the trim balance procedure is started less than 5 minutes after the engine was operated at high power and was not stopped.
(l) If the analyzer equipment only has sensitivity switch positions of 20 and 100 pC/g, do the steps that follow. 1) Initially, set the sensitivity selector to the 100 pC/g
position. 2) If the vibration level indication is less than 4 mils DA (8
__________ mils actual), change the position of the sensitivity switch to 20 pC/g.
NOTE: If the 20 pC/g position is used, the vibration level
____ indications that are more than 20 mils DA are not
___________
satisfactorily accurate.
3) Multiply the indication that shows on the indicator by a
number, as follows, to get the correct vibration level.
NOTE: The sensitivity switch for channel 1, which is
____ connected to the 50 pC/g TRF sensor, can only be set to 20 or 100 pC/g.
a) When the switch is set on 100 pC/g, multiply the indication that shows by 2 to get the correct vibration level.
Mils DA, corrected = Mils DA shown x 2

b) When the switch is set on 20 pC/g,
multiply the indication that shows by 0.4 to get the
correct vibration level.
Mils DA, corrected = Mils DA shown x 0.4
(m) Increase the speed of the engine slowly to the correct takeoff
target %N1.
(n) Decrease the speed of the engine slowly and continuously to the
subsequent lower N1 speed as shown in figure 504.
(o) If the amplitude of the No.1 bearing (or FFCCV) or the
corrected TRF vibration level is more than 10 mils DA, do the
steps that follow.
1) Do not read the indications.
2) Decrease the speed until the corrected vibraton level is_________
not more than 10 mils DA.
3) Use the N1 speeds that cause corrected vibration levels
that are less than 10 mils DA to do a first trim balance
procedure.
(p) Decrease the speed slowly and continuously until the engine is
stable at the N1 speeds shown in Figure 504.
1) Make sure the vibrations become stable.
2) When the vibrations become stable, write the vibration
amplitude (U) and phase angle (A) for each sensor and each
speed, as shown in the worksheet (Fig. 504).
NOTE: If the vibration does not become stable in 1 minute,____
continue the procedure, but do not keep this data.
(q) Decrease the speed to minimum power.
(r) After 3 minutes, when the engine becomes stable, do the engine
shutdown procedure (AMM 71-00-00/201).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU PUT COVERS ON ALL OF THE LOWER HALF OF
_______ THE INLET COWL SURFACE. ALSO MAKE SURE THAT THE EDGES OF THE MATS TOUCH OR ARE ATTACHED WITH SOME TAPE. IF THE EDGES ARE NOT, THEN THE TOOLS OR PARTS CAN FALL AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE INLET COWL SURFACE.
(s) Use tape to put the protective mats on the inner lower half of the inlet cowl.
