CAUTION:_______BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU HANDLE THE SHIMS. THEY ARE THIN AND ARE EASILY DAMAGED. DO NOT USE TOO MUCH FORCE WHEN YOU INSTALL THE SHIMS ON THE FAN BLADE ROOTS. THE COATING ON THE FAN BLADES AND THE SHIMS IS EASILY DAMAGED. OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS OR YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
1) Put a shim on each of the fan blades before you install it (Fig. 402).
(d) Do these steps to install the fan blades: 1) Turn the fan disk until the number 1 blade slot is at the 6
o'clock position. 2) Put a blade in the dovetail slot and move it fully aft. 3) Install a retainer in the slot (perpendicular to the
dovetail slot and at the front of the disk). 4) Install the spacer below the fan blade and at the same time engage the retainer. 5) Move the spacer fully aft.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE SHEET METAL OF THE DAMPER TOUCHES
_______ THE BLADE PLATFORM. IF THE SHEET METAL DOES NOT TOUCH THE DAMPER FULLY, THE DAMPER WILL NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY.
6) ENGINES WITH DAMPERS; (ENGINES POST-CFMI-SB 72-494 AND POST-CFMI-SB 72-543); Install a damper on the bottom side of the blade platform (Fig. 402).
(e) Do these steps again until you install all the fan blades:
NOTE: When you install each blade make sure the mid-span

shroud is engaged with the adjacent blades.
1) Turn the fan disk until the number 1 blade slot is at the 6 o'clock position.

7) ENGINES WITH DAMPERS; (ENGINES POST-CFMI-SB 72-494 AND POST-CFMI-SB 72-543); Install a damper on the bottom side of the blade platform (Fig. 402).

When you install the last blade make sure that the dampers are correctly installed below the adjacent blades. 1) Use hand force on the adjacent blades when you engage the
mid-span shroud.
(g)
Make sure that all 38 blades, retainers, dampers, and spacers are correctly installed.

If not already done, install the spinner front and rear cones (AMM 72-31-01/401).
