 7.  HPT Blades and Shrouds and 1st-Stage LPT NGV's - Inspection
___________________________________________________________
 A.  General
 (1)  
This inspection has two procedures, the first inspection uses the rigid borescope and the second inspection uses the flexible borescope.

 (a)  
The first inspection examines these components in this sequence: 1) 1st-Stage LPT Nozzle Guide Vanes (NGV's) 2) HPT Shrouds 3) HPT blades except the leading edges

 (b)  
The first inspection begins at the S17 borescope port. The inspection of the 1st-Stage NGV's and HPT shrouds is also done at the S18 port. It is necessary to turn the N2 rotor to examine the HPT blades.

 (c)  
The second inspection examines the HPT blades and shrouds.

 (d)  
The second inspection begins at the left spark igniter port. It is necessary to turn the N2 rotor to examine the HPT blades. The inspection of the HPT shrouds is done again at the right igniter port.

 

 (2)  
Do an inspection of the leading edges of the HPT blades with a flexible borescope only if you find damage to the HPT blade during an inspection with a rigid borescope, or if you think there is damage to the leading edge.

 (3)  
Do an inspection of the leading edge of the HPT blade after all EGT overtemperatures above 955°C.

 (1)  If not already done, do the procedure to prepare the airplane for the inspection.
 (a)  
Remove these borescope plugs: 1) The plug (S17) at the 5 o'clock position immediately in front of the aft flange of the combustion case (Fig. 607).

 2)  The plug (S18) at the 8 o'clock position immediately in front of the aft flange of the combustion case (Fig. 601).

 (b)  
Put a rigid borescope (with a 90° right angle view and 60° field of vision) in the port S17.
