FAN AND BOOSTER - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

1. General
_______
A. The fan and booster (LPC) module is driven by the low pressure turbine and provides two separate air streams. The primary (or inner) air stream flows through the fan and booster section where the air is compressed for introduction into the high pressure compressor. The secondary (or outer) air stream is mechanically compressed by the fan as it enters the engine and is ducted to the outside of the core engine. This secondary air stream adds to the propulsive force generated by the core engine.
