E. HPT Blades and Shrouds Inspection With the Flexible Borescope
S 866-106-C00
(1) This procedure is used for these conditions:
(a)
Damage or possible damage was found during the rigid borescope procedure.
(b)
An EGT overtemperature above 955°C.
S 846-103-C00
(2) If not already done, do the procedure to prepare the airplane for the inspection.
(a)
Remove the right spark igniter (AMM 74-21-02/401). 1) Loosen the clamp on the igniter cable near the plug.
(b)
Move the plastic guide tube over the straightening rod and install the tube in the combustion chamber as far as it will go.
(c)
Put the pointed ear on the plastic tube to the rear of the engine and remove the straightening rod from the engine. 1) The end of the tube should be adjacent to the NGV's of the
HPT.
CAUTION: YOU MUST REMOVE OR INSTALL THE FLEXIBLE BORESCOPE AS
_______ SPECIFIED. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS PRECAUTION, DAMAGE TO THE END CONTROL MECHANISM CAN OCCUR.
(d)
Install the end of the flexible borescope and make sure the lens is aligned with one ear on the plastic guide tube. 1) Make sure the tip is not pushed up or down when the
borescope is installed.
(e)
Move the borescope through the guide tube until the it comes out of the end of the guide tube.
NOTE: Use two hands to help in this operation.
____
(f)
Put the end of the borescope between the NGV's. Use the deflection control to put the borescope in its correct position.
(g)
Adjust the flexible borescope until you can see the leading edges of the blades or shrouds.
(h)
Turn the N2 rotor to examine the leading edges of the HPT blades and stop at each blade for a detailed inspection.
NOTE: To help make an estimate of the size of damage you
____ see, the radial spacing of the trailing edge slots is approximately 0.1 inch (2.5 mm).

ú (3) Examine the leading edge and platform of the HPT blade (Fig. 607A).
(a) Missing material in the areas A and B.
1) There is no maximum limit if you cannot see the No. 3
radial cavity and no more than 2 blades for each rotor are
damaged.
2) If you see material is missing below the tip cap in area A
or Area B, and radial cavity No. 1 or No. 2 is open, do a
one-time borescope inspection between 80 and 100 hours.
a) If the 80-100 hour borescope inspection does not find___
more damage or no more material is found to be missing,__
inspect again at the next regularly scheduled interval.
b) If the 80-100 hour borescope inspection does find more
damage or more material is found to be missing, and the
damage is in the permitted limits, repeat the borescope
inspect every 80 to 100 hours.
