 A. General
 (1)  This procedure is used when large amounts of bronze particles are found in the fuel filter.
 B. Equipment
 (1)  Borescope - Flexible, 6 mm diameter,
 90 degree angle view head, CFMI 856A1321.

 E. 1st and 2nd Stage LPT Nozzle Borescope Inspection.

 (1)  If not already done, do the procedure to prepare the airplane for the inspection.

 CAUTION:_______USE ONLY TRAINED PERSONS FOR THIS INSPECTION PROCEDURE. ACCESS TO THIS AREA OF THE ENGINE IS DIFFICULT. DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE AND THE FLEXIBLE BORESCOPE CAN OCCUR.
 CAUTION: DO NOT TURN THE LOW PRESSURE TURBINE (LPT) ROTOR WHEN YOU DO
_______ THE BORESCOPE INSPECTION. DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE AND THE FLEXIBLE BORESCOPE CAN OCCUR.
 (2)  Remove these borescope plugs (Fig. 607B).
 (a)  
The plug (S17) at the 5 o'clock position immediately in front of the aft flange of the combustion case.

 (b)  
The plug (S18) at the 8 o'clock position immediately in front of the aft flange of the combustion case.

 (c)  
The plug (S20) at the 5 o'clock position.


 NOTE: CFM56 engine with 9 probe EGT probes, borescope port S20
____ is at the 3 o'clock position.

 (3)  Examine the 1st-Stage LPT NGVs.
 (a)  Install a flexible borescope in the port S17.
