FAN ROTOR BLADES - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General
_______
A. You can get access to the (first-stage) fan rotor blades through the inlet cowl after you remove the spinner front and rear cones.
B. There are five topics that give the data to replace the fan blades.
(1)
The first topic prepares the engine for the replacement of the fan blades.
(2)
The second topic replaces a pair of fan blades.
(3)
The third topic replaces an individual fan blade.
(4)
The fourth topic removes all the fan blades on the engine to get access to other areas of the fan module.
(5)
The fifth topic puts the airplane back to its usual condition.

2. Fan Rotor Blades Replacement

A. Equipment
(1)
Protective mats (two required) -Rubber Manufacturer's Association, Grade SC43,
neoprene sponge, 1 inch thick, approximately
3 x 4 feet with warning streamer attached.
(2)
Adapter, Puller - Fan blade spacer, 856A3500,
CFM International, P.O. Box 15514, Cincinnati,
Ohio, 45215.

Feeler gauge set - local purchase
(4)
Slide hammer - puller (C6240-9)
Snap-On Tools Corp., 2801 80th St.,

(1) Location Zones
101 Flight Compartment, Left
102 Flight Compartment, Right
501 Fan Inlet, Left
601 Fan Inlet, Right
E. Prepare for the Replacement of the Fan Blades
S 864-024-C00
(1) Make sure the start levers are in the CUTOFF position.
(a) Install the DO-NOT-OPERATE tags on the start levers.

(2) Open these circuit breakers:
(a) Main Power Distribution Panel P6
1) ENG 1 START VALVE
2) ENG 2 START VALVE

CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU GIVE SUFFICIENT PROTECTION TO THE INNER SURFACE
_______ OF THE INLET COWL. NO PROTECTION CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE INNER SURFACE OF THE INLET COWL.
(3) Install protective mats on the lower surface in the inlet cowl.
(a) Make sure you apply tape to the mats.
F. Fan Blade Replacement in Pairs

(1) Do the procedure to prepare for the replacement of the fan blades.

WARNING:_______MAKE SURE YOU WEAR GLOVES WHEN YOU HANDLE THE FAN BLADES. THE
FAN BLADES CAN CAUSE INJURY TO YOUR HANDS.
CAUTION: IF YOU ARE TO INSTALL THE FAN ROTOR BLADES AGAIN, YOU MUST MAKE
_______ A RECORD OF THEIR INITIAL POSITIONS. YOU CAN ONLY USE APPROVED MARKING MATERIALS (AMM 70-10-03/201).
