2. Spinner
_______
A. Spinner front cone
(1) The spinner front cone is made of composite material. Because of its design, an engine nose anti-icing system is not necessary. The front cone is bolted to the front flange of the rear cone.
B. Spinner Rear Cone
(1) The spinner rear cone is made of aluminum alloy. Its rear flange is bolted to the fan disk and is part of the fan blade retension system. The outer rim of the rear flange has tapped holes for the trim balance bolts. The front flange is used to attach the spinner front cone.
(a) ENGINES WITH CFMI SB 72-488; A bonded seal has been added to the rear cone on some engine models.
3. Fan Disk
________
A. The fan disk is a titanium alloy forging. Its rear inner flange provides attachment for the fan shaft and its rear outer flange is bolted to the booster rotor. The front flange provides attachment for the spinner rear cone. The disk outer rim has recesses to retain 38 fan blades, spacers and blade retainers.
4. Fan Blades
__________
A. There are 38 fan blades that are made with a titanium alloy. The fan blade length is approximately 14.5 inches (368 mm) long. A dovetail joint radially locks the fan blades into a rotor disk. A blade retainer and spacer prevent axial movement. A damper has been added under the blade platform for some engine models (with CFMI SB 72-494). Each fan blade has tabs called a mid-span shroud.
(1) ENGINES WITH CFMI SB 72-621; Shims must be added to fan blades that are mounted to engines with rebroached fan rotors.

5. Rotor
_____
A. The rotor consists of the booster spool and blades. The main function of the booster is to compress the primary airstream for introduction into the HPC.
B. The booster spool is a one-piece forging that is cantilever-mounted on the rear of the fan disk. The inner front flange, bolted to the fan disk, acts as a stop for the fan blade spacers. The outer front flange supports the forward rotating air seal that acts as a front stop for the booster blades. The rear flange supports the aft blade retainer that provides for blade axial retention. The booster spool periphery has three integral rings with 136 broached slots each.
C. The booster has three stages, with 68 titanium alloy blades each. Each blade has a dovetail base. The blades are installed in every second slot on the spool. Two sets of 68 spacers are inserted in the blade-free slots to provide for axial spacing between 2nd and 3rd, and 3rd and 4th blade stages. The outer face of each spacer has sealing lips which make up the rotating part of the interstage air seals.
