CFM56 ENGINES
737-300/400/500/ /MAINTENANCE MANUAL ////////////////////////
S 975-060-C00
CAUTION: DO NOT OPERATE THE 3-B1 ENGINES AT 3B-2 TAKEOFF POWER FOR ANY
_______ OTHER PROCEDURE. THE OPERATION OF THE 3-B1 ENGINES AT 3B-2 TAKEOFF POWER IS APPROVED FOR THIS PROCEDURE ONLY. THE CONTINUED OPERATION OF THE 3-B1 ENGINES AT THE 3B-2 TAKEOFF POWER WILL CAUSE ENGINE PERFORMANCE DETERIORATION.
 (6)  With the temperature and barometric pressure records, calculate and make a record of the static takeoff target %N1 (Ref 71-00-01/201).
NOTE: When you do the trim balance procedure on the 3-B1 engine, it
____ is permitted to use higher 3B-2 engine static takeoff targets if the condition that follows occurs. It is permitted if the usual 3-B1 takeoff targets do not let the engine operate at or near the power at which the vibration problem occurred.
 S 715-061-C00
 (7)  Do the engine run as follows.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE BRAKES ARE SUFFICIENT AND THAT THE
_______ ADDED EXHAUST (JET BLAST) WILL NOT CAUSE PROBLEMS. BRAKES THAT ARE NOT SUFFICIENT AND TOO MUCH EXHAUST CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT AND INJURIES TO PERSONS.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU OBEY THE WIND VELOCITY AND DIRECTION LIMITS.
_______
IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE LIMITS, FAN TIP STALL CAN OCCUR.

 (a)
Start the engine (AMM 71-00-00/201) and operate it at minimum power for 3 minutes until the engine is stable.

 (b)
Increase the speed of the engine slowly, during a time of 20-30 seconds, until the speed is 80 |2 %N1 rpm.

 (c)
Continue to operate the engine at a speed of 80 |2 %N1 rpm for a minimum of 5 minutes to make the temperature of the engine stable.

NOTE: The time to make the temperature stable can be decreased
____ to a minimum of 3 minutes if the engine was operated less than 15 minutes before this procedure. This 3 minute time is not necessary if the trim balance procedure is started less than 5 minutes after the engine was operated at high power and was not stopped.
 (d)
Increase the speed of the engine slowly to the correct takeoff target %N1.

 (e)
Continue to operate the engine for 2 minutes while you write the No. 1 bearing (or FFCCV) and TRF vibration indications (U0) on a 3-shot plot worksheet (Fig. 526).

(f)  If the vibration level is more than 4.5 units, do as follows.
 1)  Decrease the speed of the engine slowly and continuously while you monitor the NO. 1 bearing (or FFCCV) and the TRF vibration indications.
 2)  Continue to decrease the speed until the correct vibration levels are at 4.5 units or lower.
NOTE: This will make sure that the vibration levels will
____ not be more than 6.0 units during the balance procedure.
 (g)
Decrease the speed of the engine slowly to the subsequent lower N1 speed (Fig. 526).

 (h)
Write the No. 1 bearing (or FFCCV) and TRF vibration indications (UO) while you make the engine stable for 2 minutes at each lower N1 speed (Fig. 526).

 (i)
Decrease the speed to minimum power.

 (j)
After 3 minutes, when the engine becomes stable, do the engine shutdown procedure (AMM 71-00-00/201).

 S 975-062-C00
 (8)
Look at the chart of the installed balance screws (other than P07).

 S 975-063-C00

 (9)
Find three locations, that are apart 120°, where three P05 balance screws can be installed without the removal of other balance screws.

 Example: (2, 1, 38), (25, 26, 27), and (13, 14, 15).
_______
 S 035-064-C00
 (10) Install the balance screws as follows.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU PUT COVERS ON ALL OF THE LOWER HALF OF
_______ THE INLET COWL SURFACE. ALSO MAKE SURE THAT THE EDGES OF THE MATS TOUCH OR ARE ATTACHED WITH SOME TAPE. IF THE EDGES ARE NOT, THEN THE TOOLS OR PARTS CAN FALL AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE INLET COWL SURFACE.
