SURGE BLEED VALVE - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

1. General
_______
A. This procedure contains a task which does an operational test of the surge bleed valve.
B. During this test, persons must be near the APU while it operates at an rpm more than 95%. Do the test with the APU cowl door closed.

C. Procedure

(1)
Start and operate the APU (AMM 49-11-00/201).

(2)
Make sure these valves are closed:
(a)
The air conditioning valves
(b)
The bleed valves for the main engines
(c)
The thermal anti-icing valves
(d)
The tire seal valves (on the airplanes with the inflatable tire seal)
(e)
The bleed air valve for the APU.

(3) Do the test of the surge bleed valve:
(a) Open this circuit breaker:
1) P6-3 Load Control Center a) LANDING GEAR LIGHTS

(b) Make sure the surge bleed valve opens.
NOTE: When the valve opens, the flow of air from the
____ exhaust port for the accessory cooling air increases. Also, the EGT and the noise level will increase.
(c)
Turn the switch for the bleed air valve to ON.
(d)
Make sure the noise level and the air flow from the exhaust port for the accessory cooling air decrease.
NOTE: This shows the surge bleed valve is closed.

(e) Close this circuit breaker:
1) P6-3 Load Control Center
a) LANDING GEAR LIGHTS

(4) Do the APU usual shutdown (AMM 49-11-00/201).

3-WAY SOLENOID VALVE - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General
_______
A. This procedure contains the removal and the installation tasks for the 3-way solenoid valve. During this procedure, the 3-way solenoid valve is referred to as the solenoid valve.
B. The solenoid valve is on the right aft side of the APU, below the surge bleed valve. You can get access to the valve through the APU cowl door.

(1) Set the switch and the circuit breaker:
(a)
Set the APU master switch, on the P5 forward overhead panel, to the OFF position and attach a DO-NOT-OPERATE tag.
(b)
Open this circuit breaker and attach a DO-NOT-CLOSE tag: 1) E3-3 Electrical Shelf, APU Control Unit

(2) Open the APU cowl door:
(a) Open the latches for the APU cowl door.
