IGNITION UNIT - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General_______
A. This procedure contains the removal and the installation tasks for the ignition unit.
B. The ignition unit is on the bottom aft end of the APU. You can get access to the ignition unit through the APU cowl door.

B. Procedure
S 864-002
(1) Set the switch and the circuit breaker:
(a)
Set the APU master switch, on the P5 forward overhead panel, to the OFF position and attach a DO-NOT-OPERATE tag.
(b)
Open this circuit breaker and attach a DO-NOT-CLOSE tag: 1) E3-3 Electrical Shelf, APU Control Unit

(2) Open the APU cowl door:
(a)
Open the latches for the APU cowl door.
(b)
Open the APU cowl door.
(c)
Connect the door support rods.

CAUTION:_______BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU MOVE THE LOWER SHROUD. DAMAGE TO THE SHROUD DRAIN LINES CAN OCCUR.
(3) Remove the lower shroud:
(a) Hold the lower shroud and open the shroud latches.

(b) Remove the lower shroud.

(4) Remove the ignition unit:
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE IGNITION COMPONENTS UNTIL YOU DO THESE
_______ STEPS. THESE STEPS WILL RELEASE THE HIGH VOLTAGE FROM THE IGNITION UNIT. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE STEPS, INJURY TO PERSONS CAN OCCUR.
(a)
Release the voltage from the ignition unit: 1) Make sure 5 minutes have gone by since the last APU start. 2) Disconnect the igniter cable from the igniter plug. 3) Ground the igniter cable terminal to the APU engine. 4) Connect the igniter cable to the igniter plug.
(b)
Disconnect the electrical connector and the igniter cable from the ignition unit.
(c)
Install the caps on the electrical connector and the igniter cable.
(d)
Remove the screws and the washers that attach the ignition unit to the support assembly.
(e)
Remove the ignition unit from the support assembly.
