OIL TANK VENT LINE - INSPECTION/CHECK

1. General_______
A. This procedure gives a task to do an inspection of the vent line for the APU oil tank.
B. This inspection task examines the vent line and the fittings at the exhaust port and the oil tank.
C. You can get access to the vent line and the fittings through the APU cowl door.

2. Oil Tank Vent Line Inspection (Fig. 601)_____________________________
A. Standard Tools and Equipment
(1)
Container - 1 U.S. Gallon (4 Liter) capacity, for oil
(2)
Compressed Air Source - 30 psig maximum

C. Procedure
S 866-002
(1)
Set the APU master switch on the P5 forward overhead panel to the OFF position and attach a DO-NOT-OPERATE tag.
S 016-003
(2)
Open the APU cowl door:
(a)
Open the latches for the APU cowl door.
(b)
Open the APU cowl door.
(c)
Connect the door support rods.

CAUTION:_______BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU MOVE THE LOWER SHROUD. DAMAGE TO THE SHROUD DRAIN LINES CAN OCCUR.
(3) Remove the lower shroud:
(a) Hold the lower shroud and open the shroud latches.

(b) Remove the lower shroud.

(4) Visually examine the vent line for the oil tank and the fittings:
(a)
Put the container below the oil tank fitting.
(b)
Disconnect the vent line for the oil tank from the oil tank fitting. 1) Let the oil in the vent line drain into the container.
(c)
Disconnect the vent line from the fitting at the exhaust port.
(d)
Examine the fitting and the vent flange at the exhaust port for oil or carbon particles. 1) If you find carbon particles, remove them and blow out the
fitting and the vent flange with the compressed air.
(e)
Examine the oil tank fitting for sludge.
1) If you find sludge in the oil tank fitting, remove the sludge.
NOTE: If the fitting has an unusual quantity of
____ sludge, it is recommended that you remove and fully clean the oil tank.
