EXHAUST DUCT MUFFLER - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General
_______
A. This procedure gives the tasks to remove and to install the exhaust duct muffler. The exhaust duct muffler is a part of the aft fairing assembly. The aft fairing assembly has the aft fairing, exhaust duct heat shield (which is referred to as the heat shield) and exhaust duct muffler. The exhaust duct muffler can be removed with the APU in its position. Also, the exhaust duct muffler can be removed with the APU removed. If the APU is in its position, the aft fairing must be removed (AMM 49-81-31/401). If the APU is removed, it is not necessary to remove the aft fairing.

Remove the aft fairing assembly (AMM 49-81-31/401).

Remove the exhaust duct muffler:
(a)
AIRPLANES WITHOUT THE DUCT ALIGNMENT ASSEMBLY (PRE-SB 49-1101); Remove the bolts and washers that attach the exhaust duct muffler to the heat shield.
(b)
Remove the exhaust duct muffler from the heat shield.
(c)
Remove the fire detection element from the forward end of the exhaust duct muffler.
