APU COOLING AIR SYSTEM - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

1. General
_______
A. This section gives the tasks to examine and to clean the cooling fan inlet screen (which is referred to as the 'fan inlet screen'). A removal of the fan inlet screen is not necessary to clean the fan inlet screen. To clean the fan inlet screen, use a movable vacuum cleaner with a minimum diameter of 1.0 inch (25 mm) flexible nozzle, or wash the screen with solvent.
B. The fan inlet screen is attached to the top of the cooling fan housing. The access to the fan inlet screen is through the inspection tube on the cooling air duct.
C. The cooling fan blows air through the crossover duct to cool the
generator and the oil cooler.
D. A large quantity of blockage on the fan inlet screen will cause a high oil temperature. The high oil temperature will stop the APU automatically.

(1) Set the switch and the circuit breakers:
(a) Set the APU master switch, on the P5 forward overhead panel, to the OFF position and attach a DO-NOT-OPERATE tag.
