 C.  AIRPLANES WITHOUT THE ETC; When the airplane pneumatic system uses the bleed air from the APU, the APU control thermostat supplies the overload protection for the APU. In an overload condition, the EGT will increase. The APU control thermostat will bleed the compressed air from the bleed air valve. The bleed air valve will close and the EGT will decrease.

BLEED AIR VALVE - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General
_______
 A.  This procedure contains the removal and the installation tasks for the bleed air valve on the APU.
 B.  The bleed air valve is installed between the airplane pneumatic duct and the bleed air duct. The valve is aft of the APU compartment firewall. You can get access to the valve through the APU cowl door.

 B.  Procedure
 S 864-002
 (1)
Set the horizontal stabilizer trim in the full up position.

 S 864-003

 (2)  
Set the switch and the circuit breakers:

 (a)  
Set the APU master switch on the P5 forward overhead panel to the OFF position and attach a DO-NOT-OPERATE tag.

 (b)  
Open these circuit breakers and attach DO-NOT-CLOSE tags: 1) P6 Circuit Breaker Panel

 (3)  Open the access doors:
 (a)  Open the access door for the horizontal stabilizer compartment.

(b)  
Open the latches for the APU cowl door.

 (c)  
Open the APU cowl door.

 (d)  
Connect the support rods for the APU cowl door.


 S 024-005
 (4)  Remove the bleed air valve:
 (a)  
Go in the horizontal stabilizer compartment.

 (b)  
Remove the clamp, at approximately station 1075, from the airplane pneumatic duct.

 (c)  
Go to the APU compartment.

 (d)  
Remove the bolt, the washer, and the nut that attach the turnbuckle to the hanger clamp. 1) Keep the bolt, the washer, and the nut for the installation

 of the bleed air valve.

 (e)  
Disconnect the electrical connectors from the bleed air valve.

 (f)  
Disconnect the control line for the bleed air from the bleed air valve.

 (g)  
Remove the clamps that attach the bleed air valve to the ducts.

 (h)  
Remove the bleed air valve and the packing. 1) Discard the packing.
