Open both of the access doors on the airplane tail cone.

Remove the aft fairing assembly:
(a) Disconnect the two electrical connectors for the fire detection elements.
NOTE: One electrical connector is for the fire detection
____ element installed on the heat shield. The second electrical connector is for the fire detection element on the exhaust duct muffler (Fig. 401).
(b)
Remove the wiring clamp for each of the two electrical connectors for the fire detection elements.
(c)
AIRPLANES WITH THE DUCT ALIGNMENT ASSEMBLY; Remove the bolts that attach the caps to the drip pan.
(d)
AIRPLANES WITH THE DUCT ALIGNMENT ASSEMBLY;
Remove the caps from the drip pan.
(e)
AIRPLANES WITH THE DUCT ALIGNMENT ASSEMBLY; Remove the bolts that attach the duct alignment assembly to the brackets.
(f)
Remove the bolts and the washers that attach the drip pan to the heat shield (Fig. 401).
(g)
Move the drip pan to a position where it will permit clearance for the removal of the aft fairing assembly.
(h)
Disconnect the bonding jumper from the frame member below the forward end of the heat shield.
CAUTION: REMOVE THE AFT FAIRING ASSEMBLY SLOWLY WHILE IT GOES
_______ THROUGH THE AIRPLANE TAIL CONE. DO NOT PULL THE AFT FAIRING ASSEMBLY IN A STRAIGHT DIRECTION. THIS WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FIRE DETECTION ELEMENTS. MOVE THE AFT FAIRING ASSEMBLY DOWN AND TO A RIGHT DIRECTION. THIS WILL PERMIT A FULL REMOVAL OF THE AFT FAIRING ASSEMBLY. MAKE SURE THE FIRE DETECTION ELEMENTS DO NOT HIT THE AIRPLANE STRUCTURE. THE FIRE DETECTION ELEMENTS CAN BE DAMAGED.
(i)
Remove the screws that attach the aft fairing to the airplane tail cone (Fig. 401).
(j)
Put two hands (fingers) into the holes of the aft fairing.
(k)
Pull the aft fairing assembly slowly until it disengages from the shroud bellmouth.
(l)
Remove the aft fairing assembly from the airplane tail cone.
