3. Exhaust Duct Muffler Removal (With the APU Removed) (Fig. 401)

B. Procedure

(1)
Open both of the access doors on the airplane tail cone.

Remove the exhaust duct muffler:
(a)
Disconnect the electrical connector for the fire detection element on the exhaust duct muffler.
(b)
Remove the wiring clamp for the electrical connector of the fire detection element.
(c)
AIRPLANES WITH THE DUCT ALIGNMENT ASSEMBLY; Remove the bolts that attach the caps to the drip pan.
(d)
AIRPLANES WITH THE DUCT ALIGNMENT ASSEMBLY;
Remove the caps from the drip pan.
(e)
AIRPLANES WITH THE DUCT ALIGNMENT ASSEMBLY; Remove the bolts that attach the duct alignment assembly to the brackets.
(f)
AIRPLANES WITHOUT THE DUCT ALIGNMENT ASSEMBLY (PRE-SB 49-1101); Remove the bolts and washers that attach the exhaust duct muffler to the heat shield.
(g)
Remove the exhaust duct muffler from the heat shield.
(h)
Remove the fire detection element from the forward end of the exhaust duct muffler.

(3) Keep the fire detection element for the installation of the exhaust duct muffler.

C. Procedure
S 424-004
(1) Install the exhaust duct muffler:
(a)
Install the fire detection element on the forward end of the exhaust duct muffler.
(b)
AIRPLANES WITHOUT THE DUCT ALIGNMENT ASSEMBLY (PRE-SB 49-1101); Install the exhaust duct muffler on the heat shield with the bolts and washers.
(c)
AIRPLANES WITH THE DUCT ALIGNMENT ASSEMBLY (POST-SB 49-1101); Make sure the brackets on the exhaust duct muffler are the one piece type (approximately one inch height).
(d)
AIRPLANES WITH THE DUCT ALIGNMENT ASSEMBLY (POST-SB 49-1101); Install the exhaust duct muffler on the heat shield without the bolts.
NOTE: The bolts are installed during the aft fairing assembly

installation.
