(1) Install the gear shaft seal:

Install the new seal in the retainer.
(b)
Install the snap ring in the retainer.
(c)
Install the new packing on the retainer.
(d)
Carefully install the retainer on the accessory drive housing.

APU FUEL PUMP - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

1. General
_______
A. This procedure gives a task to do an operational test of the APU fuel pump. The test gives a fast indication that there is a problem with the fuel pump.
B. The APU fuel pump is part of the fuel control unit for the APU. You must replace the fuel control unit if there is a problem with the fuel pump.

C. Procedure

(1) Start and operate the APU (AMM 49-11-00/201).
(a) Let the APU operation become stable with no load applied.

(2) Do the operational test of the fuel pump:
(a)
Make sure a minimum of one fuel boost pump operates during this test.
(b)
Monitor the frequency indication for the APU generator.
(c)
Turn on the two air conditioning packs to apply a load on the APU.
(d)
Monitor the APU generator frequency.
NOTE: The frequency must not decrease more than 12 CPS
____ from the frequency seen in the step before.
(e) If the generator frequency decreases more than 12 CPS, replace the fuel control unit (AMM 49-31-11/401).

(3) Do the APU usual shutdown (AMM 49-11-00/201).

LOW PRESSURE FUEL FILTER - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General
_______
A. This procedure gives the tasks to remove and to install the low pressure fuel filter.
B. The assembly for the low pressure fuel filter is attached to and is part of the fuel control unit. A bypass valve in the filter assembly lets the fuel that is not put through the filter flow to the fuel control unit. This bypass valve operates if the filter element becomes clogged.
C. You can get access to the low pressure fuel filter through the APU cowl door.

Remove the low pressure fuel filter:
(a)
Loosen the jamnut on the fitting that attaches the filter assembly to the fuel pump.
(b)
Disconnect the fuel hose from the elbow on the filter assembly head.
(c)
Remove the nut, the washer, and the bolt that attaches the filter assembly to the support bracket.
(d)
Loosen the jamnut at the seal drain outlet for the fuel control unit.
