 OIL COOLER - INSPECTION/CHECK

 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure gives the task to examine the APU oil cooler. The APU oil cooler is below the APU gearbox. You can get access to the oil cooler after the lower shroud is removed by removing the cooling air crossover duct. You should clean the oil cooler each time you clean the cooling air fan inlet.

 2.  Oil Cooler Inspection_____________________
 A.  Access
 (1)  Location Zones
 703 APU Compartment

 B.  Procedure
 S 026-002
 (1)  Remove the cooling air crossover duct.
 (a)  
Disconnect the fire detection system bracket from the crossover duct.

 (b)  
Remove the upper and lower clamps on the crossover duct.

 (c)  
Remove the crossover duct.


 S 216-003
 (2)  Examine the oil cooler inlet and outlet surfaces.
 (a)  If the oil cooler inlet or outlet surfaces have obstructions, do these steps: 1) Clean the oil cooler inlet and outlet surfaces. 2) Inspect the air flow tubes that pass through the oil
 cooler. 3) Clean any obstructions from the air flow tubes.
 S 426-004
 (3)  If the oil cooler does not have obstructions, or after you have removed the obstructions, do these steps:
 (a)  Install the crossover duct.

 (b) (c)  Install the upper and lower crossover duct clamps.Connect the fire detection system bracket.

OIL PUMP DRIVE SHAFT SEAL - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 A.  This procedure gives the tasks to remove and install the drive shaft seal for the oil pump.

 C.  Procedure
 S 864-002
 (1)  Set the switch and the circuit breaker:
 (a)  
Set the APU master switch on the P5 forward overhead panel to the OFF position and attach a DO-NOT-OPERATE tag.

 (b)  
Open this circuit breaker and attach a DO-NOT-CLOSE tag: 1) E3-3 Electrical Shelf, APU Control Unit


 S 014-006
 (2)  Open the APU cowl door:
 (a)  
Open the latches for the APU cowl door.

 (b)  
Open the APU cowl door.

 (c)  
Connect the door support rods.


 S 014-026
 CAUTION:_______BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU MOVE THE LOWER SHROUD. DAMAGE TO THE SHROUD DRAIN LINES CAN OCCUR.
 (3)  Remove the lower shroud:
 (a)  
Hold the lower shroud and open the shroud latches.

 (b)  
Remove the lower shroud.


 S 024-004
 (4)  Remove the drive shaft seal from the oil pump:
 (a)  
Disconnect the electrical connector from the tachometer generator.

 (b)  
Remove the nuts and washers from the tachometer generator.

 (c)  
Remove the tachometer generator and gasket from the oil pump.
