Open this circuit breaker and attach a DO-NOT-CLOSE tag: 1) E3-3 Electrical Shelf, APU Control Unit

 (2)  Open the APU cowl door:
 (a)  
Open the latches for the APU cowl door.

 (b)  
Open the APU cowl door.

 (c)  
Connect the door support rods.

Open both of the access doors on the airplane tail cone.

Remove the APU (AMM 49-11-00/401).

Remove the wiring for the aft fairing assembly:


 (a)  Disconnect the two electrical connectors for the fire detection elements.
 NOTE: One electrical connector is for the fire detection
____ element installed on the heat shield. The second electrical connector is for the fire detection element on the exhaust duct muffler (Fig. 401).
 (b)  Remove the wiring clamp for each of the two electrical
 connectors for the fire detection elements.

 (6)  AIRPLANES WITH THE DUCT ALIGNMENT ASSEMBLY; Remove the caps for the drip pan:
 (a)  
Remove the bolts that attach the caps to the drip pan
 (Fig. 401).


 (b)  
Remove the caps from the drip pan.

 (c)  
Remove the bolts that attach the duct alignment assembly to the brackets.

 (7)  Remove the drip pan:
 (a)  
Remove the bolts and the washers that attach the drip pan to
 the heat shield (Fig. 401).


 (b)  
Move the drip pan to a position where it will permit clearance for the removal of the aft fairing assembly.

Disconnect the bonding jumper from the frame member below the forward end of the heat shield.

Install the special tools and equipment (Fig. 402):

 (a)  
Apply a strong pressure to the spring clips. At the same time, install the pusher plate assembly in the forward end of the exhaust duct muffler.

 (b)  
Put the two flange assemblies against the forward face of the stiffener angle on the upper shroud bellmouth. At the same time, install one flange retainer assembly on the left side to hold the flange assemblies in position.

 (c)  
Put the reaction plate assembly on the aft face of the
 stiffener angle.

(d)  
Put the studs that have threads in the slots of the reaction plate assembly.

 (e)  
Tighten the locknuts by hand to hold the reaction plate assembly against the flange assembly.

 (f)  
Put the push rod assembly through the reaction plate assembly until the pusher plate assembly is touched.

 CAUTION: REMOVE THE AFT FAIRING ASSEMBLY SLOWLY WHILE IT GOES THROUGH
_______ THE AIRPLANE TAIL CONE. MAKE SURE THE FIRE DETECTION ELEMENTS DO NOT HIT THE AIRPLANE STRUCTURE. THE FIRE DETECTION ELEMENTS CAN BE DAMAGED.
 (10) Remove the aft fairing assembly:
 (a)  
Remove the screws that attach the aft fairing to the airplane tail cone (Fig. 401).

 (b)  
Turn the push rod assembly until the aft fairing assembly disengages from the shroud bellmouth.

 (c)  
Remove the aft fairing assembly from the airplane tail cone.

 Remove the special tools and equipment from the aft fairing assembly (Fig. 402).

 Remove the exhaust duct muffler from the heat shield
