Remove the torque tube.
(a)
Remove the fasteners from the coupling and move the upper coupling in the upper shaft.
(b)
Remove the clamp fasteners that hold the lower coupling to the lower shaft spline.
(c)
Remove the lower and upper couplings.
(d)
Remove the coupling bolt that holds the upper shaft to the hinge arm spline.
(e)
Remove the fasteners that hold the bearing plate to the door structure.
(f)
Remove the upper shaft and the bearing plate.
(g)
Remove the adjusting nuts and the upper shaft from the bearing plate.
(h)
Remove the coupling bolt that holds the lower shaft to the hinge arm spline and remove the lower shaft.

(1)
Install the torque tube.
(a)
Align the pushrod with the cocking crank and install the lower shaft on the hinge arm splines.

(b)
Install the coupling bolt.
(c)
Attach the pushrod to the cocking crank.
(d)
Loosely assemble the bearing plate, lockwashers, and adjusting nuts on the upper shaft.
(e)
Install the upper shaft on the hinge arm splines and attach with the coupling bolt.
(f)
Attach the bearing plate to the door structure with the bolt.
(g)
Fill the empty space above the bearing with grease to prevent the entry of water.
(h)
Move the upper coupling to the upper shaft.
(i)
Install the lower coupling.
(j)
Connect the upper and lower couplings.
(k)
Tighten the lower adjusting nut.

(2)
Adjust the door vertical position (AMM 52-11-09/501).
(a)
Tighten or loosen the lower adjusting nut to lift or lower the door to align the vertical reference lines.
NOTE: These are the reference lines you made on the door and
____ body skins before you replace the torque tube.
(b)
If the reference lines are not available, lift or lower the door to get the necessary skin clearance.
CAUTION:_______DO NOT TIGHTEN THE ADJUSTING NUT TOO TIGHT. THIS WILL NOT LET THE BEARING MOVE FREELY. IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE BEARING.
(c)
Tighten the upper adjusting nut sufficiently to remove the play in the torque tube.
(d)
Lock the tab washers on the upper and lower adjusting nuts.

If the adjustment of the door vertical position is not satisfactory, adjust the door (AMM 52-11-09/501).
E.
Put the Airplane Back to Its Usual Condition
(1)
Install the entry door lining (AMM 52-11-02/401).
