DOORS - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
_________________________________
1. General (Fig. 1)_______
A. The doors are removable units enclosing various airplane compartments. Depending on their specific function, the doors permit entry/exit of personnel, removal/installation of equipment and servicing of airplane systems.
B. Two main entry doors provide access to the main cargo deck. Both doors are on the left side of the airplane, one at the aft end and one at the forward end of the fuselage. The doors are outward opening, plug-type, hinged doors which are operable from inside or outside the airplane.
C. The crew compartment overhead hatch, located in the aft area of the flight compartment on the upper left side of the fuselage, is an inward opening, plug-type hinged door operable from either inside or outside the airplane. Exit from the overhead hatch to ground is provided by descent devices.
D. One upper deck crew service door, on the right side, provides access to the upper deck compartment. The door is inward opening, plug-type, track-mounted door which is operable from inside or outside the airplane. Floor-mounted escape slide is installed at the door for emergency evacuation.
E. There are five cargo doors on the airplane. The forward, aft and bulk cargo doors located on the lower right side of the fuselage serve the forward, aft, and bulk cargo compartments. The fourth cargo door is the nose cargo door which opens upward to allow straight-in loading onto the main cargo deck. The fifth cargo door is the main deck cargo door located on aft of the wing on the left side of the fuselage to allow cargo to be loaded onto the main deck. The forward, aft and main deck cargo doors are outward-opening, electrically actuated, hinged doors. The bulk cargo door is an inward-opening, plug-type, hinged door. The nose cargo door is electrically actuated and opens upward on two hinges at the upper aft corners of the door. All cargo doors, except the nose cargo door, are operable from either inside or outside the airplane.
