1. General_______
A. This procedure has instructions to do these tasks:
(1)
An inspection of main entry door No. 1
(2)
An inspection of the upper and the lower gates on main entry door No. 1
(3)
An inspection of the internal and external handle mechanism on main entry door No. 1
B.
Task (2) and task (3) are included in task (1). Thus, if you do task (1), then it is not necessary to do task (2) and task (3).

Examine the Main Entry Door
(1)
Open the door.
(2)
Remove the lining from the door (Ref 52-11-02/401).
(3)
Remove the door maintenance access panel, forward of the door.

Examine the door for corrosion (Fig. 601).
(a)
Look at the external and internal skins for cracks and corrosion.
(b)
Make sure the hinge covers are not loose and all the screws are installed.
(c)
Look at the frames, internal brackets, handle mechanism housing, and hinges for cracks, corrosion, and loose bolts.
(d)
Look at the window and frame for cracks and corrosion.
(e)
Look at the components that follow for cracks, corrosion, loose bolts, and the general condition: 1) The operational mechanism for the door 2) The door torque tube 3) The body torque tube 4) All bearings 5) All attachments.
(f)
Look at the latch rollers, latches, and door stops for cracks, corrosion and unwanted particles.
(g)
Look at the full opening of the door for corrosion.
NOTE: Make sure you look at the areas that use non-metallic
____ compounds to make a smooth surface for the seal.
(h) Look at the lower surface of the lower gate, and the top surface of the upper gate for corrosion (Section A-A, Fig. 602).

If you find corrosion, repair the area as follows:
(a)
See the SRM 52-00-02, for the limits on the removal of material during a repair for corrosion.
(b)
See the CPM Part 3, 52-10-47 for the procedures to remove corrosion.
(c)
See the CPM Part 2, 52-10-47 for the protective finishes.
