 (f)  Make sure the overcenter dimension between the bell crank on the torque tube and the overcenter tool is as shown in Detail F.
NOTE: Use the overcenter tool to measure the dimension.
____
 (g)  Do these steps to adjust the overcenter dimension, if it is not correct: 1) Move the handle toward the open position until you can
 disconnect the lower latch pushrod.
 2)  Disconnect the latch pushrod from the torque tube.
 3)  Adjust the lower latch pushrod one-half turn at a time to
 get correct overcenter dimension.
 4)  After each adjustment of the latch pushrod, make sure the adjustment of the lower latch roller clearance is as shown in Section A-A and the lower gate flushness is as shown in Fig. 502.
NOTE: When you change the length of the latch pushrod, it
____ changes the clearance between the latch roller and the latch fitting.
 (h) Close and latch the door.

 (5)
Adjust the upper gate.

 (a)
Turn the handle toward the open position until you can connect the pushrod to the upper gate.

 (b)
Connect the pushrod to the upper gate.

 (c)
Close and latch the door.

 (d)
Change the length of the gate pushrod until the upper gate touches the inside surface of the body skin.

 (e)
Change the length of the latch pushrod one-half turn at a time to get the correct overcenter dimension (Detail F).

NOTE: The overcenter dimension shown in Detail F is minimum
____
 dimension.

There is no maximum upper gate overcenter dimension. This allows freedom in rigging the handle torque and handle torque peak position. In addition, if the upper gate overcenter dimension is too large, it may cause the stop pins to bottom out during unlatching operation.
 (f)  After each adjustment of the latch pushrod, make sure the adjustment of the upper latch roller clearance is correct (Section A-A).
NOTE: When you change the length of the latch pushrod, it
____ changes the clearance between the latch roller and the latch fitting.

 (6)
Adjust the torque that is necessary to latch and unlatch the door.

 (a)
Install a torque wrench and adapter on the internal handle shaft.

NOTE: You can measure the torque at the handle with a spring
____ scale. The spring scale must measure 0 to 30 pounds. Attach the spring scale to the handle 18 inches from the center of the handle shaft and pull the spring scale perpendicular to the handle.
 (b)
Make sure the door is closed and latched.

 (c)
Attach a ruler to the door structure to measure the position of the torque wrench (or door handle if you used a spring scale). 1) Align the ruler to measure the distance that a point 16

inches from the center of the handle shaft moves. 2) Make sure the ruler reads zero when there is no play in the torque wrench (or handle if you use a spring scale).

 (d)
Measure the distance the torque wrench (or handle) moves and the torque (or spring scale force) that is necessary when you unlatch the door. 1) Slowly unlatch the door with the torque wrench (or spring

scale). 2) Make a note of the maximum torque (or spring scale force) that is necessary to unlatch the door. 3) Make a note of the distance that is on the ruler when the maximum torque occurs. 4) Do the measurement again to make sure the measurements are correct.

 (e)
Satisfactory unlatching torque is from 220 to 400 pound-inches

(13.0 to 22.0 pounds on the spring scale).
 (f)
Satisfactory distance is from 0.70 to 2.5 inches at a point 16 inches from the center of the handle shaft (2.5 to 9.0 degrees).
