b) Add or remove the laminations to adjust the shim thickness (53), if it is necessary.
NOTE: The minimum shim thickness is better.

If you adjusted the shim thickness (53 or 58), do these steps to apply primer to the shims and grease to the surfaces: 1) Remove the external handles (9) and center shaft (45) to
get access to the shims (53) 2) Apply the primer to the delamination surface of the shim(s) (53). 3) Apply grease to the worn surfaces of the center shaft (45), inner shaft (24), and clutch collar (26). 4) Install the external handles (9) and the center shaft (Ref Par. F.(2).).
(g)
Attach the control cam (28) with the washer (34) and nut (33).
(h)
Install the shims (29) and the stub shaft (30).

Adjust the latch keper (1) (Fig. 402).
(a)
Close and latch the door.
(b)
With the handle (3) in its position, make sure the handle flushness is as shown in Section A-A.
(c)
Do the above step with the door open.
(d)
If the handle flushness is not satisfactory, do these steps to adjust the handle flushness. 1) Extend the handles (3). 2) Remove the fasteners that hold the latch keeper (1),
serrated plate (2), and shim (5). 3) Adjust the shim (5) to get the necessary handle flushness.
NOTE: The shim thickness on the upper handle can cause
____ incorrect fairing of the lower handle when the door is in the closed position. Keep a minimum shim thickness to correct the outward flare of the lower handle.
4) Loosely assemble the latch keeper (1), serrated plate (2), and shim (5) with the bolts (4), nuts (7), and washers (6). 5) Adjust the serrations to give a specified clearance between the latch (8) and catch (1). 6) Install the nuts (7) and do the steps (a) and (b) above.
(e)
Make sure the lower handle does not touch the door pan when you put the handle in its position.
(f)
If the handle touches the door pan, apply sealant to the center of the contact area on the door pan.
NOTE: Apply 0.01-0.03 thick sealant on all area of 0.5

Adjust the pushrod (20, View E, Fig. 401) to be at zero force.
(a)
With the door closed and latched, try to remove the bolt (81) that attaches the pushrod (20) to the hinge torque tube.
NOTE:____Do not remove the bolt if it is not easy. No adjustment is necessary if you can remove and install the bolt easily.
(b)
Open the door to the cocked position.
(c)
Remove the bolt (81) that attaches the pushrod (20) to the hinge torque tube.
(d)
Loosen the jamnut and increase or decrease the pushrod length (20) to remove the force.
(e)
Install the bolt (81) and close and latch the door.
