Repair a damaged section of a seal.
(a)
Remove the damaged section of the seal.
1) Make sure the ends of the repair are on flat parts of the seal.
(b)
Replace the damaged area with a section of a spare seal that is the same length.
(c)
Make a splice to hold the new section of the seal. 1) Prepare two inches of the surface on each side of the
splice. 2) Make mitered cuts on the adjacent seal surfaces. 3) Fill the mitered cuts with Type II or Type III adhesive. 4) Use Procedure B and Procedure C to bond the splices.

(10) Repair a torn entry door sweeper seal.
NOTE: The sweeper seal can make a tear from the end attach screw
____ holes. Some airplanes have a metal seal retainer below the attach screw heads to decrease the possibility of these tears. The metal seal retainers can be installed to prevent tears or hold the seal to the door lining if there is a tear.
(a)
Remove the lower lining from the door (Ref 52-11-02/401).
(b)
Remove the seal attach screws (Fig. 803).
(c)
Align the screw holes in the seal and the lower lining and install the seal retainers to hold the damaged seal.

DIAPHRAGM SEALS - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General_______
A. This procedure contains two tasks. The first task is the removal of the diaphragm seal. The second task is the installation of the diaphragm seal.
B. Diaphragm seals are part of the flap type mechanical seals used on the main entry doors. They can be disconnected from the door without the full removal of the seal by this procedure. If the full removal of the diaphragm-mechanical seal is necessary, refer to 52-09-04/401, Diaphragm-Mechanical Seals.

(3) Use the MEK, isopropyl alcohol, or ethyl alcohol to remove the adhesive between the seal and the door structure at the corner locations.
