Initial rotation of the interior handle rotates the control cam which transmits angular movement to the latching crank. The latching crank, connected to two pushrods, rotates the upper and lower latch torque tubes. Rotation of the latch torque tubes withdraws the latch rollers from the latch cams and folds the upper and lower gates inward. Withdrawal of the latch rollers closes the door warning switch and energizes the annunciator light on the flight engineer's panel.
