MAIN ENTRY DOOR HANDLE MECHANISM ASSEMBLY - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

1. General_______
A. This procedure contains two tasks. The first is the test of the clutch engagement on the external handle. The second is the adjustment of the clutch engagement on the external handle.
B. The test will help you to find the worn effects on the clutch engagement after the handle mechanism replacement. If there is a problem with the external handle when you operate, you can use this procedure to adjust the handle mechanism.

(1)
Do a test for the clutch engagement.
(a)
Do a visual check to make sure the bearing that holds the outer shaft (27) does not move in the cam (25).
(b)
Pull and turn the external handles (2, 28) until one of the bearings (3) moves on the edge of the cam (25).
(c)
Measure the distance between the outboard end of the center shaft (30) and the plane of the door outer contour.
(d)
Put the external handles (2, 28) in their positions.
(e)
Turn the internal handle a minimum of 40 degrees to prevent the clutch collar (15) engages with the slot on the center shaft (30).
