 NOTE:  The lever to release the hold-open device is found between the hinge fittings on the fuselage. Do not move the trigger that installed on the hinge fitting. If the lever is not free, move the door in and out lightly while you operate the lever.

 (b)  
Use the assist handle to pull the door through the opening.

 (c)  
Turn the door handle to close and latch the door.

Examine the Main Entry Door For Damage

Close the door.

Examine the structure of the door for damage.

 (a)  
Try to find the location on the door that was hit and the direction the impact came from.

 (b)  
Try to operate the door.

 (c)  
With the door in the open position and the linings installed, examine the surfaces of the structure for damage.

 (d)  
Examine the area that was hit for damage or cracks.

 (e)  
Examine the seal and seal retainers on the door for defects.

 (f)  
If you find damage to the lining on the door, remove the lining and examine the structure below the lining for damage.

 (g)  Examine the upper and lower hinge covers for damage.

 (3)  
Examine the primary mechanism of the door for damage.

 (a)  
With the door in the open position, look through the hinge openings for damage to the parts that follow: 1) The upper and lower hinge arms 2) The upper and lower hinge links on the body torque tube 3) The guide arm 4) The upper and lower bearings on the body torque tube 5) The upper and lower bearings on the door torque tube.

 (b)  
Examine the upper and lower latch cranks and rollers on the forward and aft edge of the door for damage.

 (c)  
Examine the door torque tube for damage: 1) Put a load of 100 pounds in the down direction on the door stop in the upper aft corner.

 2)  Make sure that the upper and lower hinge arms stay in parallel to each other.

 (d)  
Close and latch the door.

 (e)  
From outside the airplane, do a visual check for clearance and flushness between the door and body.

 (f)  
From inside the airplane, do a visual check for the alignment of the lower door stop pins and stop pads.

 (4)  Make sure the latch mechanism operates correctly (Ref 52-11-01/501 (Doors 1); 52-11-09/501 (Door 5)).
