CLOSEOUT SEAL - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

1. General_______
A. This procedure has these tasks:
(1)
the installation of the retainer for the closeout seal
(2)
the installation of the closeout seal.

2. Installation of the Retainer for the Closeout Seal__________________________________________________
A. Procedure
S 022-001
(1)
Remove the existing foam seal.
S 022-002
(2)
Remove the adhesive residue.
S 022-003
(3)
Where the retainer interferes with wires or the support structure:
(a) Trim the retainer to clear the interface by 0.25 to 0.75 inches.
S 022-004
(4) Where the retainer crosses a break in the unit structure:
(a) Trim the retainer 0.5 to 1.0 inches on both sides of the break.

3. Installation of the Closeout Seal_________________________________

A00281 adhesive, BAC 5010, type 79
(2)
A00552 adhesive, BAC 5010, type 60
(3)
A00750 adhesive, BAC 5010, type 89
B. Procedure
S 022-006
(1)
Remove the existing foam seal.
(2)
Remove the adhesive residue.
S 022-008
(3)
Where two seals join, do the following:
(a)
Do not use adhesive.
(b)
Cut the end off one seal so that the coupler on the other seal overlaps it.

(c) Where a coupler is not available at the end of either seal:
1) Install a coupler, size the coupler to match the largest mating seal.

Press the seal locking device into the preinstalled retainer so the locking device engages. Do not use adhesive.

(5)
Apply BAC 5010 Type 79 adhesive (or type 60) to fill any gaps remaining after all other seals are installed.

(6)
Trim the seal to fit.

(7)
Glue one side of the seal and push the pointed end into the gap until only the decorative endcap is visible.
S 022-011
(8)
Where the seal turns a corner:
(a) Remove as much non-decorative cross section as required to install the seal.
S 022-012
(9)
Trim the seal to fit the installation space.
S 022-013
(10)
Where the seal interferes with wires or support structure:
(a) Trim the seal to clear the interference.
NOTE: Do not trim the seal so far that the relief is

visible to the cabin interior.

General (Fig. 1)

A. Sidewall linings covered in this section consist of passenger configuration lining panels.
B. Sidewall linings in the upper deck compartment consist of window reveal panels, and dado panels. For information on the ceiling panels installed above the reveal panels, refer to 25-22-00/001, Ceiling Lining and Insulation. The forward and aft ends of the compartment are enclosed by partitions.
