747-400 MAINTENANCE MANUAL
Re-connect the preset rod assembly.
Measure Dimension A for the guide rail that is above the
actuator (Fig. 502).
NOTE: Dimension A is the distance between the top flat surface
____ of the guide rail and the top edge of the guide rail support.
1) Disconnect the actuator from the crank assembly. 2) Adjust the actuator rod end until Dimension A equals the dimension shown on Fig. 502.
NOTE: Temporarily re-connect the actuator to find if
____
Dimension A is correct.
NOTE: The adjustment limits of the rod end bearing are
____
1.02-1.31 inches (Dimension X, Fig. 502).
Re-connect the actuator to the crank.
Do these steps to adjust the remaining guide rails.
NOTE: Do these steps for each guide rail other than the guide
____ rail that is above the actuator. Start with the guide rails that are nearest to the actuator and adjust each guide rail as you work away from the actuator.
1) Measure Dimension A for the guide rail (Fig. 502).
NOTE: Dimension A is the distance between the top flat
____ surface of the guide rail and the top edge of the guide rail support.
2) Disconnect the applicable rod assembly and adjust it until Dimension A equals the dimension shown in Fig. 502.
NOTE: Temporarily re-connect the rod assembly to find if
____
Dimension A is correct.
NOTE:____Do not adjust the preset rod assembly. You adjusted it to the correct length above.
Lubricate the push-fit bushings with grease if it is necessary. Connect the rod assembly.

(6)
Extend and retract the lateral guide rails through more than one cycle.
(a)
Put the POWER DRIVE SYSTEM switch in the ON position for the aft compartment or in the FWD or AFT DRIVES position for the forward compartment as applicable.
(b)
To extend the lateral guide rails, put the LATERAL GUIDE switch in the NORMAL position and move the joystick to the IN or OUT position.
(c)
To retract lateral guide rails, put the LATERAL GUIDE switch in the RETRACT position for the aft compartment or in the RETRACT FWD or RETRACT BOTH position for the forward compartment as applicable.
(d)
Make sure the guide rails retract to the correct position. The guide rail is in the correct position when Dimension A equals the dimmension shown on Fig. 502.
(e)
Adjust the guide rails if it is necessary.
(f)
Do the steps that follow until the lateral guides are satisfactory: 1) To extend the lateral guide rails, put the LATERAL GUIDE
switch in the NORMAL position and move the joystick to the IN or OUT position.
2) To retract lateral guide rails, put the LATERAL GUIDE switch in the RETRACT position for the aft compartment or in the RETRACT FWD or RETRACT BOTH position for the forward compartment as applicable.
