F. Replace Insulation Blankets with Too Much Damage
NOTE: Use this procedure if the repair area is more than 25 percent

of the size of the blanket or cover.

(1)
Remove the damaged sidewall or ceiling blanket (Ref 25-21-04/401).

Make a new blanket with the steps that follow:
(a) Use the damaged blanket to make a paper template.
NOTE: Use the same quantity and thickness of layers for
____ the new blanket as there were in the damaged blanket.
(b)
Cut fiberglass insulation to the same shape as the template.
(c)
Put the layers of the fiberglass insulation between the inboard and outboard sides of the fabric covering.
(d)
Put a sheet of lead-coated fabric between the layers of the blanket if it is necessary.
NOTE: The lead-coated fabric must have 0.25-inch diameter
____ holes. If the insulation blanket width is less than 12 inches,there must be one hole for each 10-inch length of the blanket. If the blanket width is more than 12 inches, there must be two holes for each 10-inch length of the blanket.
(e) Cut the fabric covering and lead-coated fabric, if it is necessary.

(f) Use a staple to connect the layers of the blanket to easily stitch and handle the blanket.
NOTE: The staples must be between the stitches and the
____ outer edge of the blanket. The staples must not show on the completed blanket. Make sure the staples go through the inboard and outboard covering and the fiberglass insulation only.
(g)
Stitch the blanket edges with stitches that are four to six stitches for each inch.
(h)
Close the edges and the cutouts of the blanket with fabric strips, with the steps that follow: 1) On edges with flaps, make the flaps the same width as the
damaged blanket. 2) On edges that need the same thickness for the whole blanket, use cement to attach the nylon binding. 3) On edges with a binding that is sewn, use 4-cord cotton thread with between four and six stitches for each inch. 4) Install nylon fabric grommets through the holes in the blanket. 5) Bond the grommets to the blanket with BMS 5-30 cement.
(i)
On ceiling panels, seal the stitching on the outboard side of the blanket with a continuous bead of BMS 5-30 cement.
NOTE: You can make the cement thin with MEK if it is

necessary.
