B. Full-size containers extend the full width of the cargo compartment and are used for handling large dimensioned packages of cargo. The empty weight of the full-size container is approximately 470 pounds, with a maximum gross payload weight of 7000 pounds. The full-size container has a volume capacity of approximately 350 cubic feet (LD-6 container).
C. Half-size containers are intended for handling passenger baggage and small articles of cargo. The empty weight of the half-size container is approximately 270 pounds, with a maximum gross payload weight of 3500 pounds. The half-size container has a volume capacity of approximately 173 cubic feet (LD-1 container) or 158 cubic feet (LD-3 container).

3. Cargo Pallets_____________
A. Cargo pallets may be carried in either containerized cargo compartment when equipped with the appropriate pallet retention hardware. Pallet retention hardware consisting of container stops and pallet locks are designed for rapid attachment to and removal from the cargo tracks to provide capability of carrying pallets, containers or mixed container/pallet loads. Each compartment can accommodate 88 x 108, 88 x 125 and 96 x 125-inch pallets when equipped with the appropriate pallet retention hardware. Provisions for mounting buyer furnished cargo tiedowns are installed along the outboard sides of each compartment.
4. Compartment Insulation______________________
A. Insulation blankets consisting of fiberglass battings coated with fire-resistant plastic sheeting are installed throughout each cargo compartment. The insulation blankets are either 1/2-inch or 1-inch thick. Insulation blankets are attached to airplane structure by plastic snap-type fasteners or velcro tape at the sidewalls and between floor beams.
B. The primary function of the insulation blankets is to provide thermal and acoustical insulation. They also provide a certain amount of fire protection because they are made of fire-resistant materials.
5. Ceiling and Sidewall Linings____________________________
A. In each lower lobe compartment, the ceiling and sidewall areas are lined with fire-resistant, fiberglass-reinforced plastic panels. In the cargo doorways, preformed, highly impact resistant panels are also installed. A hinged cover panel conceals the crew oxygen cylinders located at the aft side of the forward compartment doorway. The ceiling and sidewall lining panels are attached to airplane structure with screws and tape is used to seal joints between adjacent lining panels.
B. In the forward compartment, vertical sidewall lining access panels conceal oxygen cylinders located along the right sidewall just aft of the forward compartment doorway. The lining panels are attached to airplane structure with snap-type fasteners and velcro tape.
WARNING: THE VERTICAL SIDEWALL LINING PANELS IN EACH CONTAINERIZED CARGO
_______ COMPARTMENT ARE DESIGNED TO TEAR AWAY FROM SIDEWALL SUPPORT STRUCTURE AND BLOW INWARD INTO THE COMPARTMENT DURING A RAPID DECOMPRESSION OF THE AIRPLANE. IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT ONLY A LINING OF CORRECT SPECIFICATION AND THICKNESS BE USED PER ENGINEERING DRAWINGS. NO SUBSTITUTION OF LINING MATERIAL OR FASTENERS OR CHANGE TO DESIGN IS PERMITTED. LINING PANELS SHOULD NOT BE BLOCKED OR RESTRAINED FROM FUNCTIONING AS DESIGNED.
C. Sidewall lining panels cover the vertical and sloping sidewall support structure in each containerized cargo compartment. The vertical sidewall panels are designed to tear away from the sidewall support structure and blow into the compartment during a rapid decompression of the airplane.
