NOTE: Use only hand pressure to tighten the hinge 1 bushing [69].
(b) Tighten the hinge 1 nut [71] to 90 - 125 pound-inches (10.2 - 14.1 newton-meters).
1) Install the new pin [72] in hinge 1.
2) Install the lockwire, G01048 from the bushing [69] to the elevator installation [1].

(10) Do a final check of the elevator full travel by turning the elevator installation [1] full up and full
down by hand.
(a) Make sure the elevator installation [1] moves a minimum of 25.87 degrees trailing edge up
from the neutral index mark and a minimum of 19.53 degrees trailing edge down from the
neutral index mark. Use the digital protractor, STD-1232 to measure the angle.
NOTE: If you do not get one or both of the required angles, disconnect the elevator
control pushrod [60] from the mast arm fitting (Figure 406), and measure the
angles again.

(11) Connect the pushrod [52] of the elevator position transmitter [51] to the elevator installation [1]
(Figure 406):
(a) Install the screw [56], washer [55], and spacer [54] to the pushrod [52].
(b) Connect the electrical connector [53] to the elevator position transmitter [51].

(12) Connect the elevator control pushrod [60] to the elevator installation [1] (Figure 406):
(a) Move the elevator installation [1] to the neutral position.

(b) Install the pin assembly [59] with the pin head inboard, nut [58].
1) Tighten the nut [58] to 500 - 600 pound-inches (56.5 - 67.8 newton-meters).
CAUTION: DO NOT TIGHTEN THE NUT [58] AGAIN AFTER YOU TIGHTEN THE NUT [57], YOU
CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(c) Install the nut [57].
1) Tighten the nut [57] to 150 - 220 pound-inches (17.0 - 24.9 newton-meters).

(13) Remove the rig pin E-5 of the rig pin kit, SPL-1585 from the elevator aft quadrant.

(14) Check the adjustment of the elevator blade seal gaps:
(a) Make sure the stabilizer and elevator are at their neutral positions.
(b) Make sure the elevator blade seal gap is within the tolerance of 0.020 +0.030/-0.010 inch
(0.51 +0.76/-0.25 millimeter) (Figure 407).

(17) Adjust and test the elevator system by doing the following:
NOTE: If you install the same elevator that you removed from the airplane, and no repairs or
modifications to the elevator or adjustments to the elevator system have been made,
then it is not necessary to do the adjustment steps of the elevator system below.
Continue to the elevator tab pushrod adjustment section of this procedure.
(a) Do this task: Elevator Control Pushrods - Adjustment, TASK 27-31-00-820-802.
(b) Do this task: Input Rods of the Elevator Power Control Unit - Adjustment,
TASK 27-31-00-820-803.
(c) Do the following test for elevator centering:
1) Set the FLT CONTROL B switch on the forward overhead panel, P5, to the OFF position.
2) Make sure the FLT CONTROL A switch on the forward overhead panel, P5, is in the ON
position.
3) Make sure the captain’s control column is at the neutral position.
a) Make sure the right elevator aligns with the index mark in +/- 0.06 inch (+/- 1.5
mm) (Figure 27-31-00-990-807).
4) Set the FLT CONTROL B switch to the ON position.
a) Make sure the right elevator aligns with the index mark in +/- 0.06 inch (+/- 1.5
mm).
5) Set the FLT CONTROL A switch to the OFF position.
6) Make sure the FLT CONTROL B switch is in the ON position.

7) Set the FLT CONTROL A switch to the ON then to the OFF position.
a) Make sure there is less than 0.02 inch (0.5 mm) movement at the right elevator
trailing edge.
8) Set the FLT CONTROL B switch to the OFF then to the ON then to the OFF position.
a) Make sure there is less than 0.02 inch (0.5 mm) movement at the right elevator
trailing edge.
9) Set the FLT CONTROL A and B switches to the ON position.
10) Make sure the captain’s control column is at the neutral position.
