down direction. The force is to be applied to the top side of the tab leading edge.
1) Make a record of the travel shown on the dial indicator.
(k) Slowly remove the force.
(l) Make sure that the sum of the two travel records is not more than 0.030 inch (0.76
millimeter).
1) If the sum of the two travel records is more than 0.030 inch (0.72 millimeter) check the
hinges for excessive wear and replace, as necessary.
(m) Move the mounting plate and dial indicator to the next hinge centerline.
(n) Repeat the above steps for each of the other three outboard elevator tab hinges.
(o) Repeat the above steps for the 4 hinges on the tab of the opposite elevator.
(p) Remove the dial indicator.
(q) Remove the mounting plate.

(2) Lubricate the elevator tab hinges, do this task: Elevator Tab Hinge Lubrication,
TASK 12-22-31-640-802.
J. Put the Airplane Back to Its Usual Condition.
