E. Centering Unit Installation
SUBTASK 27-31-64-420-001
(1) Install the centering unit [1]:
(a) Put the centering unit [1] in its position.
(b) Align the bolt installation holes in the bearing assemblies [13] with support brackets [14].
(c) Install the bolts [15] and washers [16] to attach the bearing assemblies [13] to the support
brackets [14].
(d) Install the bolt [8], washer [9], washer [10], and nut [11] to connect the micro-adjustment rod
[12] to the centering unit [1].

(5) Adjust the output rod [2]:
(a) Align the bolt hole of the output rod [7] and bolt hole of the crank [2].
(b) If the alignment difference is more that 0.06 inch (1.5 millimeters), then do these steps:
1) Turn the sleeve on the output rod [7] until you can install the bolt [3] easily.
NOTE: Always turn the clevis and the sleeve in the same direction and number of
threads are equal in the two parts.

CAUTION: DO NOT TIGHTEN THE OUTER BOLT OF THE BOLT [3] AGAIN AFTER YOU TIGHTEN
THE NUT [7]. YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
(6) Install the bolt [3], washer [4] (under bolt), washer [5] (under nut), and nut [6] to connect the
output rod [7] to the crank [2].
(a) Tighten the outer bolt of the bolt [3] to 75-85 pound-inches (8.5-9.6 newton-meters).
(b) Tighten the nut [6] to 15-20 pound-inches (1.7-2.3 newton-meters).

(7) Remove the rig pin E-5 of the rig pin kit, SPL-1585 from the elevator aft control quadrant.

(8) Do this task: Elevator Neutral Shift Sensor Adjustment, TASK 22-11-14-820-801.

(9) Do this task: Put the Elevator Systems A and B Back to the Condition Before the Pressure
Removal, TASK 27-31-00-840-802.

(10) Remove the "DO-NOT-OPERATE" tags from the control columns.

(11) Move the control column full forward and full aft.
(a) Make sure the control column moves freely and smoothly.

(12) Do this task: Feel Force System - Test, TASK 27-31-00-700-812.

(13) Make sure that there is no hydraulic leakage at the elevator feel actuator.
