F. SMYD Installation
SUBTASK 27-32-42-910-002
CAUTION: DO NOT TOUCH THE SMYD BEFORE YOU DO THE PROCEDURE FOR DEVICES THAT
ARE SENSITIVE TO ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE. ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE
CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SMYD.
(1) Do the necessary steps to protect the SMYD from electrostatic discharge. To do this, do this task:
ESDS Handling for Metal Encased Unit Installation, TASK 20-40-12-400-802.

(2) Make sure the SMYD and shelf connectors are clean.

(3) Remove any protective caps or bags from SMYD and shelf. To do this, do this task: Conductive
Dust Cap and Conductor Cover Removal, TASK 20-40-12-400-803.

CAUTION: ELECTRICAL PINS ON THE SMYD CONNECTOR AND TRAY CONNECTOR MUST NOT
BE BENT OR DAMAGED. INSTALLATION OF A SMYD BOX WITH DAMAGED PINS
COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE SMYD, TRAY ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR, OR
SYSTEM COMPONENTS.
(4) Slide the SYMD [1] into the shelf.
NOTE: Refer to (E/E Box Installation, TASK 20-10-07-400-801) for further details on the E/E
box installation.

(5) Tighten the hold down knob.
G. Stall Management Yaw Damper Module Installation Test

(1) Supply electrical power to the airplane. To do this, do this task: Supply External Power,
TASK 24-22-00-860-813.
(a) Make sure the IRU is operating. do this task: IRS Mode Select Unit Installation,
TASK 34-21-03-400-801
(b) Make sure the FMC is powered and has good weight data entered. do this task: BITE
Library Test, TASK 22-11-00-740-806

Remove the safety tags and close these circuit breakers:
