of the airplane and incorrect adjustment can cause a pitch and attitude upset in the event of a
dual simultaneous hydraulic system loss. Since the magnitude and attitude of this pitch upset
cannot be predicted to sufficient accuracy or verified on the ground, a flight test is necessary to
determine the unbalanced moment. The unbalanced moment is reflected in terms of the number
and direction the pilot must turn the stabilizer trim wheel to return the airplane to level flight after
initiating manual reversion. If the number and direction of stabilizer trim wheel turns are not
within limits, then the elevator tab pushrods need to be re-adjusted and a subsequent flight test
performed. The number and direction of stabilizer trim wheel turns should be recorded during
the manual reversion flight test since this information is needed to correctly re-adjust the
pushrods.
(2) Make sure that you satisfy the flight test requirement before a revenue service of the airplane.
However, if it is not possible to perform a flight test before revenue service, you can operate the
airplane in revenue service for a maximum of 10 days before you successfully complete the
flight test. A second flight test is necessary if the pitch up or pitch down trim is more than the limit
during the first flight test.
(3) This flight test is necessary after you have completed one of the following maintenance tasks:
NOTE: A replacement part is a new or different part that was used to replace a part.
(a) For the elevator:
1) After a replacement of an elevator.
2) After a replacement or adjustment of an elevator pushrod.
3) After a replacement of an elevator hinge bearing plate (Figure 520).
NOTE: Flight test is not required if all of the following conditions are met:
- The elevator was not removed from the airplane.
- Adjacent hinge plates are not removed at the same time.
- No more than two hinge plates are removed at the same time on the same
side.
4) After a replacement of an elevator hinge fitting plate.
5) After a maintenance where on-jig re-balance of the elevator is necessary (SRM
51-60-04).
(b) For the elevator tab:

1) After a replacement of an elevator tab (or tabs).
2) After a replacement or an adjustment of an elevator tab pushrod, unless its companion
tab pushrod is not removed or adjusted, and the replacement tab pushrod is adjusted
correctly.
NOTE: For each elevator tab, if both pushrods are adjusted, then a flight test is
necessary. If only one pushrod is adjusted and you can verify that the
remaining rod has not been replaced or adjusted since the last flight test, then
the flight test is not necessary.
If only one pushrod is adjusted and you cannot verify that the remaining
pushrod has not been replaced or adjusted since the last flight test, then a flight
test is necessary.
3) After a replacement of an elevator tab hinge bearing.
NOTE: It is not necessary to do a flight test if: you do not remove the elevator tab
hinge fitting assemblies from the elevator when you replace the bearing, you
do not adjust the elevator tab control rods, or when the tab rods are removed,
you install the same tab rod in the same left and right locations on the same
tab.
4) After a replacement of an elevator tab hinge fitting.

5) After replacement of the inboard elevator tab hinge bushing.
NOTE: It is not necessary to do a flight test if: you replace bolts at any elevator tab
hinge location, or if you replace bushings at any, or all, of the three outboard
tab hinge locations, or if an airplane has been flight tested and known to fall
within the boundaries of the applicable Elevator Tab Rig Adjustment Charts
and that you can verify that no other maintenance action, which normally
requires a flight test, has been performed since the last flight test.

6) AIRPLANES WITH SIX HINGE ELEVATOR TABS;
NOTE: It is not necessary to do a flight test if: you replace bolts at any elevator tab
hinge location, or if you replace bushings at any tab hinge location, if you can
verify that no other maintenance action, which normally requires a flight test,
has been performed since the last flight test.

(4) Dual Hydraulics Failure: Please read the following instructions before you perform the flight test.
