(1) Do this task: Remove Pressure from the Elevator Hydraulic Systems A and B,
TASK 27-31-00-800-802.

(3) Install the rig pin E-5 from rig pin kit, SPL-1585 in the aft control quadrant (Figure 401).

(4) Measure and record the elevator tab position:
NOTE: Measuring and recording the elevator tab position before you remove the tab may
improve the manual reversion success rate, if the tab needs to be adjusted after
installation. The tab position can be measured with the fixture, SPL-1686, installed on
the second elevator tab hinge (from inboard). The tab position can also be measured
using two pointers with one attached to the elevator and one attached to the elevator
tab. To get an accurate measurement when you re-install the tab, you will have to mark
the position of the edge of the elevator and elevator tab on the pointers so that they can
be re-installed at the same locations when you do the measurements to re-install the
elevator tab.
(a) If the same tab will be re-installed, then do the following prior to tab removal:
1) Make sure that the elevator tab meets the freeplay limits. To check the freeplay limits,
do this task: Elevator Tab Freeplay - Check, TASK 27-31-32-200-801 or Elevator Tab
Freeplay - Check, TASK 27-31-32-200-802.
(b) While you move the elevator trailing edge down, align the projected center of the elevator
trailing edge with the index mark within +/- 0.04 inch (1.0 millimeter), or less.
1) Measure and record the elevator tab position.
F. Elevator Tab Removal

(1) Remove the bolts [24] from the access panel [23] to get access to the elevator tab pushrods [25].

(2) Remove the bolts [38] and bolts [53] from the hinge cover [39] and hinge covers [46] to get
access to the elevator tab hinges.

(3) Remove the elevator tab assembly [22]:
(a) Remove the pins [54], nuts [30], washers [31], bushings [32], and bolts [33] from the
elevator tab assembly [22] and elevator tab pushrods [25]. Discard the pins [54].
(b) Hold the elevator tab assembly [22] while you disconnect the elevator tab assembly [22]
from the elevator [21]:
1) Remove the pin [44], nut [45], washer [43], bushing [42], washer [41], and bolt [40].
Discard the pin [44].
2) Remove the pins [51], nuts [52], washers [50], bushings [49], washers [48], and bolts
[47]. Discard the pins [51].
CAUTION: DO NOT LET THE BONDING JUMPERS SUPPORT THE WEIGHT OF THE
ELEVATOR TAB ASSEMBLY [22]. THE BONDING JUMPERS CAN BE
DAMAGED.
3) Remove nut [26], washers [27], and bolt [29] to disconnect the bonding jumper [28] from
the elevator [21].
4) Remove nut [34], washers [35], and bolt [37] to disconnect the bonding jumper [36] from
the elevator [21].
(c) Remove the elevator tab assembly [22].
